A RESOLUTION NOTING THE PASSING OF BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES
WHEREAS, BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES was born on October 8, 1911 to Dietrich and Lena
· Friedrich in Mount Prospect, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES spent the early years of her life growing up in
Mount Prospect's thirteenth house, located at 101 South Maple Street; and
WHEREAS, BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES was married to Fred Linnenkohl for two years until
his death in 1939, and several years later, in 1961, she married Charles A. Barnes. She
remained a lifetime resident of Mount Prospect, having attended school here and later
contributing to the community as a member of, and active volunteer in numerous capacities at
South Church; and
WHEREAS, during her adult years, BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES lent much of her time to the
Mount Prospect Historical Society, assisting members in the preservation and restoration of her
childhood home as the Village's museum; and
WHEREAS, BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES spent hours providing painstaking details to Society
members on how life was lived in the home, where furniture was placed, and even what was
grown where in the family garden; and
WHEREAS, many photographs and artifacts, including furniture owned by the family, were
donated to the museum by BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES, thus adding to its authenticity; and
WHEREAS, during the restoration of the family home, BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES served on
all three of the Society's restoration committees, and served as a member of the Board of
Directors throughout the restoration and beyond until her health deteriorated; and
WHEREAS, BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES was honored with the distinction of being named
Director Emeritus of the Mount Prospect Historical Society in January, 1999.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect
do hereby acknowledge the many contributions of BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES and do
hereby express sincere sympathy to her family on her passing.
SECTION TVVO: That this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Board of Trustees
of the Village of Mount Prospect and that a copy hereof, suitably prepared, be presented to the
family of BESSIE FRIEDRICH BARNES.

passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
