A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A PROJECT APPLICATION FOR FUNDING
UNDER THE SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM (SRTS)
WHEREAS; the Village of Mount Prospect desires to improve and enhance pedestrian and bike transportation within
the Village and connectivity with schools, parks and local businesses; and
WHEREAS; the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) administers the Safe Routes to School Program that
looks to enable and encourage children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school; to make
bicycling and walking to school a safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thereby encouraging a healthy
and active lifestyle from an early age; and to facilitate the planning, development, and implementation of projects and
activities that will improve safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption, and air pollution in the vicinity of primary and
middle schools ; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect has determined that it is in its best interest to submit an application for
Safe Routes to School Program funds for the Kensington Road Railroad Crossing Improvement Project; and
WHEREAS, the project will include Phase I and Phase II Engineering, and Construction and Construction
Engineering; and
WHEREAS; a Safe Routes to School Grant will fund 100% of construction costs, with engineering to be paid by the
local sponsor;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect,
Cook County, Illinois
SECTION ONE: The Village staff is authorized to apply to the Illinois Department of Transportation for Safe Routes
to School Program funding for the Kensington Road Railroad Crossing Improvement Project; and
SECTION TWO: The Village certifies that they are willing and able to fund, manage, maintain and operate the
project; and
SECTION THREE: The Village possesses the legal authority to nominate the transportation enhancement project
and to finance, acquire and construct the proposed project; including all understanding and assurances contained
therein, and authorizes representative to act in connection with the nomination and to provide such additional
information as may be required.
SECTION FOUR: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in
the manner provided by law.
