2018 Sister Cities Commission Annual Report
This past year the Commission has gone through several changes. We have had several members leave to relocate to
warmer climates, personal business workloads, and retirements.
Fortunately, we have had an equal number of individuals with a strong desire to join the Commission.
Throughout the year the Commission continued to promote the French culture through programs and events for the
entire community, such as:
• French Trivia Night — largest attendance ever.
• Wine Tasting
• French Market
The French Market did an outstanding job this past year, and there are additional plans for 2019.
The Commission especially liked the new location on Prospect Avenue for the Market which was a result of construction.
We hope it stays there, and for a larger area to sell more booths.
The Commission is scheduled to visit Sevres in 2019, and is limited to around 8 members including spouses. Seven of us,
including the Mayor, went in 2015. This is an official visit, not social, and it should be noted that the individuals going
pay expenses, including airfare. No Commission money or tax dollars are used for this event.
I feel the new and existing members have many new ideas for events to help the Commission grow and involve the
Community in the coming year.
We will be continuing with the student exchange programs between Prospect High School and the high school students
from Sevres, along with encouraging a Pen -Pal program between the local students of both cities. This is not only what
both of our Mayor's wish to see, but it also follows President Eisenhower's concept in forming the Sister Cities
International program. He believed this would provide a better understanding between world cultures to promote
peace and a mutual respect.
The Mount Prospect Sister Cities Commission is committed to International understanding by maintaining a solid and
mutually rewarding relationship with Sevres, France, along with continuing to inform the residents of the Village about
our Sister Cities program, and the international cultural connections.
Financially we are doing well. We have an over $17,000.00 in our reserve. We raise this money through our events and
use it to cover commission expenses. Again, no tax dollars are used. The reserve in the commission bank accounts is
being held in anticipation of expenses associated with the next visit of Sevres to Mount Prospect and in anticipation of
holding additional community -wide events such as the D -Day movie shown three years ago at Randhurst AMC, which
was produced by a film producer from Sevres. The commission absorbed the entire expenses of this event in honor of
our veterans and those who gave their lives on D -Day. The reserve level has helped us shift our focus from fund raising
to friend raising, especially involving the youth of both Mount Prospect and Sevres.
It has been another good year.
Thank you.
