PROCLAMATION
"FIRE PREVENTION WEEK"
OCTOBER 7 - 13, 2018
WHEREAS, Mount Prospect is committed to ensuring the safety and security of
all those living in and visiting our community; and
WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern both locally and nationally,
and homes are the locations where people are at greatest risk from fire; and
WHEREAS, home structure fires have caused an estimated annual average of
2,510 civilian deaths in the United States, according to the National Fire
Protection Association; and
WHEREAS, only one-third of Americans have both developed and practiced a
home fire escape plan; and
WHEREAS, Mount Prospect residents are encouraged to draw a map of their
home marking two exits from each room and a path to the outside from each
exit; and
WHEREAS, Mount Prospect residents are responsive to public education
measures and are able to take personal steps to increase their safety from fire,
especially in their homes; and
WHEREAS, the 2018 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Look. Listen. Learn. Be
aware. Fire can happen anywhere." effectively serves to remind us that being
prepared and aware of your surroundings can mean the difference between
residents of our community escaping safely from a fire or having their lives end
in tragedy.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount
Prospect, do hereby proclaim October 7-13, 2018, as
"FIRE PREVENTION WEEK"
In the Village and I call upon the people of the Village of Mount Prospect to
remember the 2018 message, "Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can
happen anywhere".
Arlene A. Juracek
