Information
The Village and District 214 have partnered to promote a pilot project to support the College and
Career Pathways Program, which provides students with real-world experiences and rigorous
academic courses to discover their future. Through this Workforce Innovation Partnership, the Village
of Mount Prospect will support the development of youth apprenticeship and apprenticeship
opportunities for Mount Prospect students within District 214. These students will work directly with
businesses and organizations in Mount Prospect and throughout the metro area to gain real-world
work experience. In some cases, students will receive college credit and training in their specific
career area from a higher education partner, as well as onsite job training.
The Village’s support of this partnership would involve an annual allocation of $100,000 for three (3)
consecutive years beginning in 2018. Funding would include reimbursements for expenses including
student travel, wage off-set, training and equipment. This innovative partnership directly supports
the District’s Career Pathways Program, which helps Mount Prospect students gain valuable
work experience and technical training while providing employers with experienced entry-level
employees in multiple sectors (manufacturing, high-tech, service, public safety, finance, etc).
Representing District 214 this evening is Dr. Laz Lopez, Associate Superintendent for Teaching and
Learning (and Chair of the Illinois Community College Board and former Illinois High School Principal
of the Year), Dan Weidner, Director of Academic Programs and Pathways and Patrick Mogge, Director
of Community Engagement and Outreach.
