Mayor Juracek opened the meeting with general remarks, introduced the Trustees in attendance and then moved
to the resident portion of the meeting.
John Ellenberger— Mr. Ellenberger complimented the police and fire departments for their assistance with a car
accident that he was recently involved in. He also added that he felt the police chief position should have been
filled internally instead of hiring someone from the outside.
Clyde and Dee Randmark — No comments.
Jim Chylik— Mr. Chylik echoed Mr. Ellenberger's praise of the police and fire departments.
Louis Goodman — Mr. Goodman stated that he felt the Village should charge a lease fee for the downtown ice
rink.
Walter and Pat Szymczak — No comments.
Craig Iverson — Mr. Iverson questioned why both Glenview and Mount Prospect have fire stations with the #14
as he felt that this could cause confusion with emergency response. There was general discussion but the
consensus was that they are different 911 call areas. Staff to verify.
Jerry Boldt — He stated that he read that the city of Niles has a "no text Tuesday' where the police department
focuses enforcement of texting and driving. He suggested that the Village might want to consider something
similar. He also stated that there was some conflicting information on the website and newsletter regarding leaf
pickup during the Thanksgiving week.
Carol Tortorello — No comments.
Thomas Tezky — He stated that he was frustrated with the persistence of Xfinity sales people that were going
door to door.
David Horwitz— Mr. Horwitz inquired if the police department still offered ride-alongs to residents. He was
advised that they do and that he should contact the police to set that up.
Natalia Waz - Ms. Waz asked if the Village had any ordinances that governed smoking in multi -family buildings.
She lives in the Emerson condominium and her neighbors smoke in their units. The smell comes into her unit,
which is less than ideal. After much discussion, the Mayor asked staff to investigate how other communities
address this matter.
Bob Cook — He stated that he is a member of the boy scouts and was attending the meeting to learn about the
community and to earn a badge. He asked how the website link that is tracking coyotes was working?
Linda Brady— She inquired how the transaction between Elk Grove Township and Mr. DiMucci was progressing
for the Youth Services building on Golf Road. Mr. Cooney stated that he was aware that Mr. DiMucci was the
Ione bidder on the property but that he had not heard that the transaction had moved forward yet.
Bill Millar - Mr. Millar asked why the Shining Stars Gala was being held outside of the Village. The Mayor
advised that the Special Events Commission reviewed all of the banquet hall options in town and at the end of
the day made the decision to go with the Cotillion in Palatine. They will reconsider local options for the 2019
event.
James Signorini - He stated that he is a member of the boy scouts and was attending the meeting to learn about
the community and to earn a badge. He asked the group what the most important role of government was?
Teri Gens — Ms. Gens complimented the public works department for the beautiful flowers throughout the
community and the fire department for their open house event.
Monika Witek— Ms. Witek stated that a few of the Christmas lights in the downtown were blown off their
mounts.
Alex Martinez — No comments.
Pam Mueller— Ms. Mueller stated that the recently installed parking lot lights at Golf Plaza were creating a lot
of glare onto the surrounding neighborhood. She said she called the DiMucci Company directly but they did not
return her calls. Mr. Cooney stated that staff was aware of the issue and that citations had been issued for
several property maintenance issues on the property.
John Masoncup - Mr. Masoncup raised concern with traffic on Highland Avenue as it meets Main Street and
Rand Road. He said it is very dangerous to cross either of those streets from Highland. He suggested making
Highland a one-way street to minimize traffic conflicts. He also asked why the Village left a few gaps in the
sidewalk along Rand Road this summer. Finally, he wanted to know why the Maple Court Townhomes could
not rake their leaves onto Highland Avenue. Staff indicated that they would look into these matters.
Rachel Rothcoff— Ms. Rothcoff complimented the human services department for the continued efforts at
addressing the needs of the diverse populations in the Village. She also stated that her grade -school aged
daughter recently won an opportunity to ride -along with a police officer and that she really enjoyed that
experience.
Yulia Bjekic — Ms. Bjekic stated that she believed that the Village should explore discounted transportation
options for individuals attending downtown events that involve alcohol. She also asked that the YouTube video
of the recent economic development presentation by Mr. Cooney be linked to the Village website.
Antonine Borowski — Ms. Borowski raised concerns with residents that park their cars on their driveway and
block the public sidewalk. She asked if the police could proactively enforce these violations. Several other
members in the audience agreed that this is a problem throughout the community.
Lisa Griffin — Ms. Griffin asked that the recent PowerPoint presentation for the Village's budget could be placed
on the Village website. In addition, she asked for more police presence in the Lake Briarwood neighborhood for
speed limit enforcement.
Tom Manion — Mr. Manion asked who would ultimately pay for the proposed pedestrian bridge between Melas
Park and Meadows Park. He was advised that the Village was only proposing to complete phase 1 engineering
for the project to enable the Village to apply for federal grants.
Tom Rogers — Mr. Rogers complimented the public works department for their quick response to a recent fallen
tree. He stated that the public sidewalk in front of his home was heaving and that he asked public works to
review. Public works inspectors stated that the sidewalk was not in violation of Village codes. He also asked if
fines escalated for individuals who continue to park on the street overnight.
The meeting adjourned at 11 AM.
