REGULAR MEETING
MINUTES

I. CALL TO ORDER: Co-chair Murphy called meeting to order at 3:03 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL:
Present: Sharon Anderson, Alexander Bertolucci, Gerald "Skip" Farley, Janice Farley,
Leo Floros, Dale Henricksen, Linda Hoefert, Jean Murphy, Christy Watychowicz, and
John Zulaski.
Members Absent: Patrick Mogge, Michaele Skowron
Ex-officio Members Present: Mayor Arlene A. Juracek, Marianthi Thanopoulos
Additional Village staff members present: Public Works Director Sean Dorsey, Fire
Inspector/Emergency Management Coordinator Jim Miller
Citizens: Lindsay Rice
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Skip Farley moved to approve the May 3, 2017 Meeting
Minutes. Linda Hoefert seconded. Motion passed.
IV. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD: None
V. OLD BUSINESS
A. Report: Website/Facebook update - Lindsay Rice:
Scavenger hunt Facebook posts were changed to once a week from twice per week.
Church photos would eventually be archived in the photo gallery. Check with St.
Paul and St. Raymonds Churches for their participation and share with churches
which month they are featured. Discussed time capsule photos and posting them on
the centennial website.
B. Report: Future plans for website after Centennial ends —Jean Murphy:
C. Mount Prospect Historical Society (MPHS) will take over maintenance of the
centennial website after centennial year & celebrations are done.
D. Report: Sponsorships update— Skip Farley, Leo Floros, Christy Watychowicz:
The group continues to pursue potential sponsors.
E. Report: Fourth of July parade— hand out fans? Founding family update —Jean
Murphy:
Discussed the production of centennial fans to handout at the 4th of July Parade,
Block Party, Farmers' Markets, etc. Funds are available to purchase fans since
second band was not booked for the 4th of July Parade. Watychowicz moved to
approve the purchase of 5,000 centennial fans from Morton Suggestions, Seconded
by Anderson. Motion Passed.
The each of the founding families has between 10 to 20 members planning to
participate in the 4th of July Parade. Public Works will make signs for each of the
founding family floats—"Founding Visionaries— Family Name". Parade order would
be Centennial Commission float followed by the order in which the families arrived in
Mount Prospect.
F. Report: Second round hydrant painting event— Christy Watychowicz:
Extended painting time to mid-July. 76 hydrants painted in total.
G. Report: Embracing our Differences events —John Zulaski, Alex Bertolucci:
Mount Prospect Public Library—Opera for Everyone had a great turnout— 100
people. They played the Centennial video prior to their show and there have been
many compliments on the production of the video. Well received event: possibility to
have the event again in the future. Discussion on Skokie's International Festival,
communication of cultural events that are happening in the area and promoting these
events to the public.
H. Report: Month of family fun events and its promotion —Sharon Anderson,
Marianthi Thanopoulos:
Events posted on Centennial Commission's Facebook page, website and Experience
Mount Prospect's website. Continue to fill out calendar for July. Postcards with event
information will not be sent.
I. Report: July event for Commissions — Mayor Arlene Juracek:
Village coordinated with Mount Prospect Park District to host a Summer BBQ picnic
as a special thanks to the Mount Prospect Board and Commission members.
Invitations were distributed and asked for RSVPs.
J. Report: Founding family memorials and time capsule burial plans — Mayor
Arlene Juracek:
Two of the family memorials received final approval from the respective families. All
four families reached the fundraising goal and memorials will be paid 100% by the
families. Unveil memorials at the burying of the time capsule. Coordinate time
capsule burial with Sister Cities Commission as the delegation from Sevres, France
will be visiting.
VI. NEW BUSINESS
A. Time capsule—what items we should include (bring anything you have
collected):
Public Works Director Sean Dorsey will measure previous time capsule and review
prices for a new time capsule. There was general discussion regarding items to be
placed in the time capsule. August is the deadline for ideas.
VII. OTHER BUSINESS— member roundtable—additional ideas? Comments?
• General discussion regarding a plaque in the Village Hall to acknowledge all
centennial sponsors.
• Ask Daily Herald inquire about an end of the year centennial advertisement, Mid-
December 2017.
VIII. NEXT MEETING
July 5, 2017—3:00 p.m. —Village Hall Third Floor Conference Room: Cancelled
