MAYOR'S REPORT Subject 3.3 Proclamation: National Safe Boating Week - May 20-26, 2017 Access Public Type Public Content Natio naISafe BoatingWeek2017.pdf (11 KB) Administrative Content Executive Content hftps://www.boarddocs.com/il/vomp/Board.nsf/Private?open&login 1 /1 PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK" May 20 - 26, 2017 WHEREAS, National Safe Boating Week is part of the North American Safe Boating Campaign, which unites the efforts of a wide variety of boating safety advocates, including the United States Coast Guard, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, and the National Safe Boating Council; and WHEREAS, on average, 600 people die each year in boat -related accidents in the U.S.; approximately 84% of these are jatalities caused by drowning; and WHEREAS, the vast majority of these accidents are caused by human error or poor Judgment and not by the boat, equipment, or environmental factors; and WHEREAS, a significant number of boaters who lose their lives by drowning each year would be alive today had they worn their lifejackets; and WHEREAS, today's life jackets are more comfortable, more attractive, and more wearable than styles of years past and deserve afresh look by today's boating public. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of May 20-26, 2017 as "NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK" in the Village of Mount Prospect, and I urge all residents to who participate in boating related activities to practice safe boating habits and to Wear It!
