PROCLAMATION
ACKNOWLEDGING THE
CONTRIB UTIONS OF STEVEN S. POLIT
WHEREAS, STEVEN S. POLIT has been a faithful resident of the Village of Mount
Prospect for the past 54 years, moving here in 1963 with his wife Helga and raising
his two sons here; and
WHEREAS, STEVEN S. POLIT served with honor on the Mount Prospect Youth
Commission as an Adult Advisor from 2009 until the commission's dissolution in
2013, committing his time to ensure the civic development and participation of our
young citizens; and
WHEREAS, STEVEN S. POLIT promoted our parks and recreation programs as a
Mount Prospect Park District Commissioner from 1991 through 1995, serving as
Vice President from 1993 to 1995 and was a member of the Mount Prospect Parks
Foundation from 1995 to 1996; and
WHEREAS, STEVEN S. POLIT was a champion for the successful "no wards"
campaign in 1996, preserving our form of government in which the interests of the
whole community are served by all the Board of Trustee members; and
WHEREAS, STEVENS. POLIT, the quintessential volunteer, dedicates his
Sundays, June through October, to the Mount Prospect Farmers' Market, is a proud
and productive member of the Mount Prospect Lion's Club since 2009 and is an
ardent supporter of the Saturday Night Cruise Nights; and values these opportunities
to connect, mingle and speak with the residents of ' the community he faithfully and
loyally serves; and
WHEREAS, STEVENS. POLIT advocated and coordinated the donation of unsold
produce from the Farmer's Market to the Human Services Food Pantry. Working
with local businesses and volunteers to store, pack and transport the food to be given
out to members of the community most in need; and
WHEREAS, STEVENS. POLIT, continuing his efforts to support those in need,
teamed with the Hunger Resource Network to ensure the delivery of fresh poultry and
other perishables to local agencies; and
WHEREAS, STEVENS. POLIT remains unwavering in his generosity and kindness.
His enduring commitment to community service is felt by residents who he helped
personally with odd jobs around their homes and the countless others who he referred
to Human Services for assistance; and
WHEREAS, STEVENS. POLIT was appointed to the Village of Mount Prospect
Village Board in 2008, was elected in 2009 following a successful campaign, and was
re-elected in 2013; and
WHEREAS, STEVEN S. POLIT will be remembered for his enthusiastic
leadership, integrity and deep commitment to the Village he so clearly loves; and
WHEREAS, STEVENS. POLIT made the difficult decision to not seek re-election in
2017, however, his devotion to civic service does not end here; his commitment to the
development, betterment and growth of the Village will undoubtedly continue for
many years to come.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect,
do hereby acknowledge and recognize Steven S. Polit for his years of heartfelt service
to the community and his sincere devotion to the Village. I urge all residents to join
me in wishing him and his family many continued years of happiness and good health.
