CALL TO ORDER

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
December 7, 2016 Meeting Minutes Anderson moved. Hendricksen seconded. Motion
passed.
IV. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD NONE
V. OLD BUSINESS
A. Report: Website update - Lindsay Rice Murphy delivered Rice's report. Rice will post
scavenger hunt photos on website next week.
B. Report: Anniversary weekend plans — Mayor Arlene Juracek, Lindsay Rice, Sharon
Anderson
Feb 3 2017 invitations w/designated viewing locations were sent. MP Chamber is
working w/restaurants for that night. At our next meeting we will discuss rain date
for fireworks. Re-enactment presentations are in rehearsal. The 9 minutes of
fireworks will be synched to music. Capacity is 430 chairs over 4 rooms.
Approximate capacity of 50 at school house. Remaining capacity in Village first
floor meeting room, Village third floor Board room, and MP Library meeting room.
Feb 4, 2017 dinner. The Centennial Commission bought a round trip airline
ticket from New York for singer. Video will be shown on leased large screen.
Screen will be taken down following presentation.
C. Report: Education — Patrick Mogge, John Zulaski
Letter was sent to educators in mid-December.
D. Report: Sponsorships update — Skip Farley, Leo Floros, Christy Watychowicz
With committed funds we're at $74,300 (94% of goal). Daily Herald will print a
vertical ad showing all the sponsors on Sunday, January 8, 2017. The ad will thank
sponsors, encourage add'I sponsors, and list Feb 2017 activities.
Daily Herald will run Centennial stories in Neighbor Section Thursday, January
5, 2017. To be followed by weekly feature on Centennial theme for all of 2017.
Murphy and Rice will have written the weekly articles.
E. Report: Merchandise sales update — Sharon Anderson, Jean Murphy $1896
so far sold thru MP Historical Society; does not include yard signs. Sold items
include: 6 photos w/rainbow; 10 photos w/farmers market; 17 photos w/train
station; and 4 coin sets. We will announce winning bids later in 2017. Daily
Herald wrote article about church bell ringing on New Year's Eve.
F. Report: Embracing our Differences events — John Zulaski, Alex Bertolucci
Nothing to report yet. MP Library will present an opera event Thursday, March 23, 2017
representing ethnic groups in MP. MPPL is exploring oral history project. Zulaski will bring
proposal to March meeting.
VI. NEW BUSINESS nothing to report
VII. OTHER BUSINESS — member roundtable — additional ideas? Comments?
Kleinstein offered a video of life in MP 100 years ago. Will see about using the Library to
screen video.
Anderson said that MP Park District will celebrate Mardi Gras Feb 11, 2017, the week after
the Special Events dinner. MPPD would like judges for a shoebox decorating centennial
event. Watychowicz will decorate box on behalf of Commission. Anderson will judge.
Watychowicz reminded people to "like" on Face Book.
Round 2 of hydrant painting will be announced soon. Applications will be due by end of March
2017.
Illinois is celebrating its 200 year anniversary in 2018. Unusual items invented &
manufactured in Illinois are requested.
MPPL on Tues, Feb 7 will celebrate Norman Rockwell.
