COFFEE WITH COUNCIL
SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 1997
9:00 a.m.
LOCATION: 2nd FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM, VILLAGE HALL
The meeting was called to order by Trustee Timothy Corcoran. Trustee George Clowes was also
present. Representing staff were Assistant Village Manager David Strahl and Director of Finance
Brian Caputo. Village residents present were:
Frank Smith, 903 Quince Lane
Earl Brandon, 419 S. Ojibwa
Katy Moran, 1403 S. Redwood Drive
John and Sue Pohlmann, 8 S. Mount Prospect Road
Frank Smith, 903 Quince Lane, asked what happens to lawn clippings that are collected as yard
waste. Trustee Corcoran responded that lawn clippings are composted.
Mr. Smith also stated that he recently noted several instances where cars were parked at the end of
driveways so that sidewalks were blocked. In response, Mr. Strahl said that he would ask the Police
Department to watch out for the problem. Trustee Corcoran also asked that a note be included in the
next Village newsletter reminding residents not to park across sidewalks.
In addition, Mr. Smith mentioned that he observed the Mayor's last name written on the bridge over
McDonald Creek. Mr. Strahl stated that he would initiate a service request for graffitti removal.
Earl Brandon, 419 S. Ojibwa, is interested in getting Village water for his home. He said that he
contacted the Village previously about this and inquired about it at the May Coffee with Council but
never received a response. Mr. Strahl stated that he would investigate why Mr. Brandon has received
no response and would see that he gets one immediately. Trustee Corcoran said that he would like to
know why the Village had not responded to Mr. Brandon's request since the last Coffee With Council
meeting.
Katy Moran, 1403 S. Redwood Drive, described problems for residents in the south end of the
Village with noise and other pollution from O'Hare Airport. She felt the Village should reconsider its
decision to join the O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission. Trustee Corcoran stated that he believes
the Village is in a better position to effect change as a member of the commission than we would be if
we were not a member. As a member of the commission, the Village has the opportunity to engage in
a discussion of our concerns with the City of Chicago.
With regard to noise abatement funds provided by the commission, Trustee Clowes stated that it was
his understanding that all such funds have been allocated for 1997. Mr. Strahl, as the Village's
alternate delegate to the commission, confirmed this; however, he stated that additional funds may be
available in 1998. The commission will be considering the funding level for 1998 in the next few
months.
John and Sue Pohlmann, 8 S. Mount Prospect Road, described problems with truck traffic on
Mount Prospect Road. They stated that the volume of truck traffic on the road has increased
significantly in recent years. Furthermore, they believe that some of the trucks are speeding and
carrying loads in excess of legal weight restrictions. Mr. Strahl stated that he would ask the Police
Department to engage in selective enforcement in order to assess the problem.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:25 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Brian W. Caputo
Director of Finance
