COFFEE WITH COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 11, 1995
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Farley at 09:07 a.m. Trustees
present were Michaele W. Skowron, Irvana K. Wilks. Trustee George A.
Clowes arrived at 09:20 a. m. Also present were Amy Gardner Nummer, 1205
N. Milwaukee Ave., Glenview, representing Life Source Blood Services, June
Kerstein, 1815 Apache Lane, Bob Bush, 1112 Heritage Drive, John Pressnell,
801 Heritage Drive, Ron Cassidy, Sr. and Ron Cassidy Jr. both of 708 Cedar
Lane, Village Manager Michael E. Janonis and Fire Chief Edward M. Cavello.
June Kerstein began by explaining her commitment to the blood program.
She was particularly concerned about impending budget cuts that would
seriously affect the blood program. Amy Gardner Nummer explained the
value of Life Source. She supported June and the efforts of the volunteer
staff. Mayor Farley questioned if the various Village Departments reviewed
their budgets with respect to possible cuts. Mr. Jannis stated that this type of
review is part of the process. Trustee Clowes asked how successful the blood
program is in attracting new donors. June responded that last year they had
494 and this year 573. Trustee Skowron spoke of her dual role of a blood
donor and Village Trustee. She believed people who are motivated to come
out to give blood will do so no matter who contacts them. In closing, June
reported a 5.8 dollars per capita cost. She stated people do not transfer from a
regular location very well, therefore they will be lost. Mayor Farley stated that
the Board will look into this and make a decision at a later date. All were
grateful for the information and the work that is done.
Bob Bush and John Pressnell of the Brentwood Homeowners Association
expressed concern about the townhome development at Kensington and
Wolf. The major problem is density. There are also only two exits onto
Kensington and one of the exits is in perfect alignment with Heritage Drive,
creating a potentially bad traffic pattern. The complex will bring additional
students to already over -burdened School District 26. Mr. Janonis stated the
Village reviewed the project and we cannot forcibly annex. The developer is
shopping for the best deal, currently Des Plaines. The members of the Village
of Mount Prospect Staff have been in contact with counterparts in Des
Plaines. Mr. Bush requested they continue these contacts with their associates.
The Mayor reassured him the Village will do everything possible to resolve
this issue. Mr. Pressnell reiterated the problems that would exist because of
the lack of recreational facilities for children.
Ron Cassidy brought up the problem of people parking on side streets east of
Wheeling Rd. Parking on both sides of the street may cause head-on
confrontations at some points. Ron Cassidy Jr. did an investigation Saturday
night and found open spots at some of the apartment buildings. Mr. Cassidy
thought it is an abuse of the parking regulation. Mr. Janonis added that if we
are giving permission to park on side streets, this will stop. The Village of
Mount Prospect is currently in the process of trying to determine the number
of available spots. There may be a deficiency. Trustee Skowron stated the
Village ought to be sensitive to property available to be purchased for possible
demolition and the creation of open space thereby reducing the density in the
area. Discussion ended with the agreement to continue all efforts to resolve
the problem.
The Coffee With Council Meeting adjourned at 11:20.
Respectfully Submitted,
Edward M. Cavello
