MARCH 19, 1998 MEETING

[At the time of the March 19, meeting the nine (9) member Solid Waste Commission had
three vacancies. Of the sig (6) members only four (4) were able to attend the meeting.
Therefore, only an informal discussion of topics was held. Since the March 19, meeting
Mayor Farley made two (2) appointments to the Commission; Mrs. Lois Brothers and Mr.
Judd Strickland.]
Summary of March 19, 1998 Discussion
• The Solid Waste Coordinator was asked to contact the Downers Grove Park District to
learn about their recycling in the parks program.
• It was suggested that the Commission write the Park Districts encouraging them to
promote recycling in the parks in their brochures.
• The Commission discussed this years focus for the Solid Waste booth at the Public
Works Open House, May 16. The solid waste display will highlight recycling in all
areas of the home; bathroom, bedroom, garage, etc.
• The Coordinator stated she would send a reminder to all the Commission members
about the Open House; Commission members are to contact her if they will be
attending the event.
• The Coordinator informed the Commission of the May 30, Household Hazardous
Waste Collection Day at Oakton Community College. An insert regarding the
collection will be in the May -June Newsletter.
As this was Harold Rentshler's last official meeting the Commission members and
Coordinator expressed their thanks to Harold and commended him for all his services
to the Village. Harold and his wife Doris are leaving Illinois after 31 years to retire in their
home state of Iowa. (Harold will be recognized for his volunteer services to the Village at
the May 19, Elderhonor Luncheon.)
Thanks Harold, you' 11 be missed.
