I.Meeting called to order:
Chair BobUsnik called the meeting to orderat6:01 pm.

II.Approval of the minutes
:After correctinga misspelling, the minutes were approved.
BarbaraVanArsdalemoved to approveandPaul Seilsseconded.

IV.Mayor’s Comments:

V.Chair’s Comments:
Bob Usnik discussed the OMA meeting. Centennial events will be
discussed at the July meeting.
VI.Treasurer’s Report:
Skip Farley presented the Treasurer’s Report. John Sibravamoved to
approve and Rafi Sahakian seconded.
VII.Committee Reports
D-Day Movie Progress Including Website–
a.Bob Usnik stated that the paymentfor
licensing fees wasmade by wire transferbut had not been received by the French production
company. The transfer was delayed during processing byHSBC. This matter was being
investigated, and a different manner of payment may be necessary to ensure the transaction
will be completed in time. Information aboutthe movie has been posted onthe Sister Cities
website and online registrationis underwayusing Eventbrite. Invitations have been sent to
the VIP’s. Bill Star, Commissioner of the Park District is working with the veterans to
engage them.The logistics offreeing up additional seats closer to the date werediscussed.
BlackfinRestaurant isthe probable choiceto caterthe reception prior to the movie.The time
lines for the reception and the movie were discussed.Sister Cities will provide the wine.
Paula Randant volunteered topurchase throughthe distributorwho provided wineforthe
Commission’swine tastingevent.A liquor license will be obtained for the reception.A
singer who is able tosingboththe national anthems of theUnited States and France will be
hired to singat the opening of the program at the theater.
Pot Luck DinnerReportfromApril 21
b.–Rafi Sahakian statedthat 97people responded,
and 81 attended the event.The high school students who had gone to France on the student
exchange and shared their experiences during their time abroad, as well as piano and violin
performances of music by French composers, ensured that we met our objective of making
this a cultural event. Ticket sales totaled $320.00. This was allprofit since allprizes had
beendonated by Mount Prospect businesses. Rafi thanked everybody who pitched in to make
the event a success.
Student Exchange
c.–The pen palexchange has been pushed back because allefforts are
moving toward an actualstudentexchange this summer. The pen pal exchange will be
readdressed in the fall.A family in France and a family in Mount Prospect have agreed to
exchange during thesummerof 2016.The student from Mount Prospectwill be in France for
an entire month.The French student will be in Mount Prospectfor a month in 2017. Two
French students fromthe2015exchangewill be coming to Mount Prospectthis summer.
Library Lobby Display–
d.Pat Usnikand Liz Theissdecorated the library with French books,
porcelain and miscellaneous French items. The display was up for the entire month of April
and was well received by visitors to the library.
Book Crossing and French Culture Week attheLibrary –July 11-16–
e.There will be a
special lobby display, andMonday, July 11 is Family day. Denise Rano will lead a book
discussion on 6:30pm–7:30pm, and Language Stars will also be
Le Chapeau de Mitterrand
presenting their program for the children.
July 4Parade
f.-Paula Randantwill send an email 2 weekspriorto July 4to find out who
will be marching in the parade.
VIII.Open Discussion
a.BobUsnikand BarbaraVanArsdalewent to Signs by Tomorrowto inquire about
purchasing banners and/or tablecloths for Sister Cities Commission events.The
estimated costs were $150.00for a banner and $365.00for a tablecloth. Priceswould
include printing and artwork.
b.The Sister Cities International Conference will be held in Washington, DC July 13-16,

2016. This marks the60anniversary of Sister Cities. The Mt. Prospect flagwas sent to
Sister Cities International and will now beon permanent display in WashingtonDC.
c.Denise Rano suggested moving Trivia Nightto the beginning of March in 2017 because
of conflicts withthe Centennial celebrations.
d.A fall dinner at Retro Bistro was suggested by Judy McGinnis. This will be readdressed
at the July meeting.
e.Bob Usnik suggested obtainingbusiness cards for Sister Cities. Cost is approximately
$10.00 per 100.
f.Barbara VanArsdale announced that she isready to accept items for the2016French
Market.
IX.Adjournment:
Skip Farley moved to adjourn and Rafi Sahakian seconded. The meeting was
adjourned at 7:12 pm. The next meeting is scheduled for July 21, 2016 at 6:00 pm.
