Zadel Village of Mount Prospect 50 South Emerson Street, Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 MINUTES COFFEE WITH COUNCIL Saturday, November 14, 2015 Community Center, Village Hall The meeting convened at 9:07 a.m. Village Board members present were Mayor Arlene Juracek and Trustees Steven Polit, Richard Rogers, Paul Hoefert and Colleen Saccotelli. Representing Staff were Village Manager Michael Cassady, Human Services Director Julie Kane and Interim Fire Chief Brian Lambel. Tom Tezky brought toys to the meeting to be donated to Toys for Tots and shared pictures of puzzles he has been working on. Mal Holec expressed concern about the postponement of safety regulations with the railway. Mayor Juracek clarified that the railway was given extra time to comply with safety regulations due to the cost. Interim Fire Chief Lambel stated that the Fire Department will be training all firefighters on awareness in crude oil and other hazardous materials. Mr. Holec expressed disappointment with the breakup of the Mount Prospect Band. Mayor Juracek stated that the Park District has been funding the band for many years and stated she has had recent conversations with some band members who have indicated that they are recruiting new members and are hopeful that they will rebuild. Carol Tortorello had nothing to report. Louis Goodman expressed concern regarding two police officers who are out on leave. Mr. Goodman stated that he has not seen anything in the news after the initial articles regarding the incidents the officers were involved in and feels the tax payers deserve transparency. Mayor Juracek advised that there are laws that prohibit certain information from being shared. Village Manager Cassady indicated that one of the situations is in the hands of the court and that the other employee is expected to return to his position in the future. Jerry Boldt commented on the Isabella project and reported that he has spoken to Mr. Dorsey regarding the intersection at William and Isabella. Mr. Boldt stated that there is an issue with a manhole cover which has created an uneven surface that can be felt when driving over it. Mr. Boldt inquired as to whether there would be a warning sign posted by the islands put in at the new crosswalk at Melas Park. He expressed concern that they could be buried in snow in the winter and stated signage might be necessary for the snow plows. Carolyn Hajost stated that the Police Department stood by while her neighbor removed a tree from her property and she wished to commend Officer Ziolkowski for his professionalism. Rob and Grace Pascolini had nothing to report. Barbie and Steve Van Arsdale commented on the Crime Stoppers program and stated that the program is going well. Mr. Van Arsdale stated that due to the low crime rate they have not had very many calls, but that support for the program has been great. Representative Elaine Nekritz commented on the tollway annexation. Mayor Juracek advised that the annexation is moving along but not complete yet. Teri Markovits had nothing to report. Jan Kent informed the group that the library collects used books for children. Bill Millar raised concern regarding the construction that has taken place in regards to the Westbrook school project. Mr. Millar indicated that a speedbump was created for wheelchairon the sidewalk which he believes is not ADA compliant. Mr. Millar is also concerned about water drainage in this area and possible freezing in the winter. He would like to be followed up with on this matter. Mr. Millar commented on the crossing at Weller and Busse and indicated that they are putting in flashing lights which he thinks is a good idea. Craig Iversen inquired about the lane closures on Route 83. He was advised that the closures are part of the Isabella sewer project and that the project will be completed and all lanes will be open by the end of the year. Walter Szymczak had nothing to report. Cathy Pavlatos received her alarm license bill and inquired as to why residents are billed by the Village for having a private alarm system which they pay for. Mayor Juracek indicated that there are administrative costs which the Village incurs in dealing with false alarms. Mayor Juracek indicated that the Police Chief will follow up with an outline of costs associated with private alarms. Mayor Juracek further stated that the Village has begun to align fees with the users of the service. Marilyn Leung had nothing to report. Chris Rogers requested that the Village review the schedule for garbage and leaf pick up as it is hard to get through some neighborhood streets because of multiple trucks being on the street at the same time. Mrs. Rogers was advised that Public Works would follow up with her. Mrs. Rogers also suggested that the property at River and Camp McDonald Road be looked at for possible storm water storage. Trustee Rogers has raised this issue at a Board meeting. Tom Manion thanked the Village for the email alerts regarding door to door sales people and advised that there was a suspicious sales person at his home. He suggested changing the wording to David Schein expressed concern regarding leaves being pushed into the street for pick up too far in advance of the scheduled pick up date. He suggested recognizing and thanking residents who are complying with the schedule. Mr. Schein suggested looking at the Golf Course as a possible venue for the Centennial Celebration. Mayor Juracek advised that Public Works is a possibility due to the need to accommodate a large group of people, but that the Village is still considering options. Mr. Schein encouraged everyone to donate to the food pantry and to attend upcoming budget meetings. The meeting was adjourned at 10:35 a.m. Respectfully Submitted, Julie Kane Human Services Director
