HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/08/2015 CWC Meeting Notice (2) MINUTES VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT COFFEE WITH COUNCIL SATURDAY, AUGUST 8, 2015 9:00 AM Community Room, Village Hall Meeting convened at 9:00 AM. Those present: Mayor Arlene Juracek, Trustee Steven Polit, Trustee John Matuszak,Trustee Richard Rogers, Trustee Paul Hoefert, Trustee Colleen Saccotelli,Acting VillageManager Dave Strahland Fire Chief John Malcolm. Edward David ScheinNa Wa Ta Avenue Ken Koeppen discussed the “no trucks” signage at north bound Emerson/Northwest Highway and whether more specific signage is needed.Staff will follow up on this issue. Carolyn Hajost discussed a fence issue with her neighbor. Concerns of drainage, fire hazard, and attracting animals were mentioned. Mayor Juracek advised her to keep track of the drainage issuesand to contact us if there are any issues with drainage. She also thanked the Police Department and Public Works staff for their assistance. John Elenberger asked about the status of the sidewalk repairs on Northwest Highway. Mr. Strahl advised they are working on it and hope to be completed soon. Mr. Elenberger also mentioned that a pedestrian crossing sign on west boundCottonwood near Redwood is damaged. Healso discussed the airplane noise recently. Mayor Juracek informed that there is a temporary change in air traffic at O’Haredue to runway repairs.Staff will follow up on the signage on Cottonwood. 1 Craig Iverson Mr. Iverson asked when the building demo willstart at 83 & Central. Acting Village Manager Strahl indicated demo should start by the end of the month. Louis Goodman spoke of the two police officers mentioned in the newspaper recentlyand has concerns with the incidents. Mayor Juracek statedthere should be norush to judgment and the Police Chief is handlingboth of these issuesand appropriate action will be undertaken at the proper time. Chris Rogers stated he had a great time at the Block Party. Mrs. Rogers had issues with Illinois American Water recently, but she spoke to them at the Block Party and they are working through the billing issues with them. Trustee RichRogers had nothing to report. Andy Starck owns the propertyat 300 West Golf Road. Mr. Starck read preparedremarks and asked the Board to allow the sale of his property on Golfto allow the Walgreensdevelopment. Mayor Juracek thanked Mr. Starck for his comments and provided the history of covenant for this property. Jim McKenzie is a developer and explainedpossible development on this site. Further discussion took place on this topic. Jerry Boldt askedfor an update on the Isabella sewer project and when Rand Road will be open. Acting Village Manager Strahl indicatedRand should be open within10 days. Mr. Boldt also mentioned issues of hiring permanent residentsand that theFBI, State Police and Cook County Policerequire U.S.citizenship to be hired by these agencies. Further discussion on this topic took place. Carol Tortorello had nothing to report. Mal Holec asked about police staffing and any concerns with these two officers being offon paid leave.Does this leave the police department understaffed to protect the Village? Acting Village Manager Strahl respondedthe police department staffing on the street is adequate with the officers offon leave.Mr. Holec asked about rail car safety and specifically crude oil cars. The Mayor explained some of the new train car standards and Chief Malcolm explained the Fire Department capabilities for these types of incidents. Bill Millar expressed concerns with dust at Westbrook and asked if there was anordinancethe addresses this issue.Mr. Millar also asked if IDOT approved the work on road? Also, he asked ifthe light poles and electric wereinstalled prior to approvaldo they have to be removed. Staff will follow upon these issues. Thomas Tezky stated he purchased a knife to cut the bagels at Coffee with Counciland spoke about the puzzles he is working on. Trustee Paul Hoefert had nothing to report. 2 Iliana Tarova expressed concern of Mr. Schroeder’s behavior on August 4, 2015 when she called the Building Department to express concern with confidentialityand a fence issue. Ms. Tarova questioned the manner in which Mr. Schroeder addressedherconcernsduring their phone conversation.Further discussion took place on this issue. Acting Village Manager Strahl stated he is dealing with this issue and ithas been addressed with Mr. Schroeder and his staff. Tom Manion discussed the Walgreens at 83 & Golf Road and broughtup development on Prospect Avenue. Mr. Manion also thanked the Trustees and the Mayorfor hosting Coffee with Council and feels this is a great opportunity for residents to address any concerns with their Elected Officials. David Schein spoke about thenew golf course re-design and stated the reviews have been excellent. The meeting was adjourned at 11:00a.m. Respectfully Submitted, John J. Malcolm Fire Chief 3
