April 14, 2015
CALL TO ORDER — ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. in the Village Board Room of the Village
Hall, 50 South Emerson Street, by Mayor Arlene Juracek. Trustees present included
Paul Hoefert, John Korn, John Matuszak, Steven Polit, Richard Rogers and Michael
Zadel. Staff present included Acting Village Manager David Strahl, Village Clerk Lisa
Angell, Administrative Assistant Doreen Jarosz and Administrative Analyst Alexander
Bertolucci.
II. APPROVAL OF COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MINUTES FOR MARCH 24, 2015
Motion made by Trustee Korn seconded by Trustee Zadel. Minutes were approved.
III. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD
None
IV. CENTENNIAL COMMISSION UPDATE DISCUSSION
Jean Murphy, Centennial Commission Co -Chair spoke. She introduced the
commission members in attendance and provided a summary of the commission's
activities. She stated the commission plans to have few key, one -time -only, events and
seeks to collaborate with local organizations to partner the centennial anniversary
celebration fervor with established community events. She stated the commission has
also been charged with creating a framework for the Village -wide celebration by
providing diverse methods of communicating with all ages and segments of the Village's
population and business community. She stated the commission will utilize social and
traditional printed media to market the various community events with a centennial
anniversary theme. She stated Ravenswood Events has been contracted to develop the
mechanics of, hosting, and maintaining the centennial anniversary website. She stated
Lindsay Rice, Executive Director of the Mount Prospect Historical Society, was hired part
time to develop the content for the website.
She stated the Centennial Commission presented its outlined plans to the Village Board
last fall and requested seed money for the commission initiatives. She stated the
Commission plans to raise funds through a variety of opportunities that includes
sponsorships, commemorative items, t -shirts and more. She stated the funds raised
would be used to defray costs associated with the planned celebratory events and to
repay the Village funds granted to the commission by the conclusion of 2017.
She stated in the tradition of
celebrating Mount Prospect's
Manager Dave Strahl, Finance
and Public Information Officer
assistance.
Mount Prospect we want everyone to play a part in
centennial anniversary. She thanked Acting Village
Director Dave Erb, Public Works Director Sean Dorsey
Marianthi Thanopoulos for their valuable advice and

General comments from the Village Board members included the following items:
1) There was general discussion regarding how the commission seeks to engage the
Village's diverse community and coordinate events spread out around the Village.
2) There were suggestions regarding the utilization of social media to assist with
involving the youth and the possibility of coordinating an event with Prospect High
School.
3) There was a discussion regarding the Centennial Commission website and the
possibility of including "this day in Mount Prospect history" page and sharing
historical photos of Mount Prospect page.
4) It was noted how the Village's vehicle stickers' art designs have been coordinated
with the history of Mount Prospect through 2018.
5) There was general discussion regarding the circumstances around the Village's
incorporation in 1917 and the ordinances approved following incorporation.
6) It was noted that several commission members were also members of the 75`"
Anniversary Commission and the Centennial Commission is building on the previous
framework.
V. MANAGER'S REPORT
Acting Village Manager Strahl stated Arbor Day is Friday, April 24, 2015 and Public
Works Department will host an Arbor Day tree planting ceremony at 1:15 p.m. at Robert
Frost Elementary School, 1308 S. Cypress Drive, in Mount Prospect. The public is
invited to attend.
VI. ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Major Juracek stated Mount Prospect Historical Society Victory in Europe (V -E) Day
Dinner will be held at Rob Roy Country Club on Saturday, April 18.
She also stated Sister Cities Commission's Pot Luck Dinner is on Thursday, April 23,
2015
