COFFEE WITH COUNCIL
SATURDAY, April 11, 2015
9:00 AM
Community Room, Village Hall
Meeting convened at 9:00 AM. Those present: Mayor Juracek, Trustee Steven Polit, Trustee John Matuszak,
Trustee Richard Rogers, Trustee Michael Zadel, Trustee Elect Colleen Saccotelli, Acting Village Manager Dave
Strahl and Fire Chief John Malcolm.

discussed electric bill scams and said we should remind residents that these individuals going
door to door are not with Com Ed. Further discussion on this topic took place. He thanked the building
department and Bill Schroeder for inspecting his furnace. He also thanked Sean Dorsey for his assistance with
the rain garden question he had. Public Works sent someone to check this out for him.
Louis Goodman
expressed concern with the separation agreement for the Village Manager.

Jerry Bolt
congratulated Trustees and newly elected Trustee Colleen Saccotelli. He reported seeing a Public
Works vehicleS03 or S05 giving off a great deal of black smoke from the exhaust and wondered if it had
mechanical problems. Staff will contact Public Works.
Ken Greenfield
has a sign on his front door for no solicitors. He stated they still ring his bell and he wants to
know why solicitors are in Mount Prospect. The Mayor explained the Supreme Court preempted this and we
can’t restrict them from doing this. Further discussion took place on this topic. The Mayor asked if we could
run a public service announcement before next Board meeting. The status of speed hump removal on See
Gwun Avenue was given and the work is scheduled to start later this year.
Jim Chylik
congratulated the newly elected Trustees.
Ken Koeppen
stated there have been large bags of lumber and trash in the 1400-1500 block of S. Linneman for
months. Staff will follow up on this issue.
Rich Rogers
thanked the voters and Colleen Saccotelli. Trustee Polit advised there was a small increase in the
number of voters this year. The Cook County website has all of the election results.
Linda and David Brady
asked about the Walgreens development. She stated she had a neighborhood meeting
and about 60 families showed up. The Mayor explained the background on this issue. Mr. Brady reminded
everyone we must protect the quality of the community. He also asked about the DiMucci property at Golf and
83. The Mayor provided background status of this project. Further discussion took place on this issue.
Mal Holec
congratulated Trustee Elect Colleen Saccotelli. He asked about the status of Levy. Mayor Juracek
advised it had not been turned over to the Village yet, and work continues on levy 37.
Jan Kent
brought up the Lynn Court annexation status. Mr. Strahl stated a Civil Engineering survey is being
done before annexation. Owners of property will need to attend crime free housing training. Representatives
Nekritz and Harris are assisting with this issue.
Carol Tortorello
had nothing to report.
Representative Nekritz
congratulated Trustee Rogers and Trustee Elect Saccotelli. Please contact her with
questions or concerns regarding State issues.
Colleen Saccotelli
thanked everyone that voted for her, and thanked those that ran for election.
Tom Manion
congratulated Trustees on winning their elections. He expressed appreciation for Coffee with
Council meetings. Trustee Zadel reminded everyone how important these meetings are and that attendance was
very low many years ago. We have come a long way in the attendance numbers at these meetings. Can this be
promoted on MPTV? Can we promote meetings on Twitter and Facebook? Staff will work on promoting
attendance at Coffee with Council.
Louis Bowers
had a discussion on recycling. He believes residents need education on recycling procedures.
Staff will discuss the possibility of additional signage with the recycling company. Further discussion on this
topic took place.
Tom Tesky
had nothing to report.

David Schein
asked if Officer Friendly had block watch signs available? He would like signs back up for block
watch. He also asked if Mount Prospect was working on becoming a storm ready community like Des Plaines.
Staff will look into both of these items.
Diana Mielak
asked if the Village could highlight recycling more on our website for Earth Day which is
4/22/15. She also asked why is there an Administration fee if you don’t pay your refuse bill? Does it make
sense to charge someone a $100 fee if they can’t pay the bill in the first place? A discussion took place on this
issue. She also inquired about the Park District Fee at Rec Plex. It was suggested she contact the Park District
directly.
Dave Zamjaan
suggested a quick link on the website for zoning issues. He commented that the Village
website is difficult to navigate. Staff will look in to this.
Barb and Steve Van Arsdale
had nothing to report.
Gene Johnson
reported the stop sign being down at the Rand Road exit of Wal-Mart. Staff will check into this
with the Wal-Mart manager.
Kiran Ravella
said Stonegate residents do not get Mount Prospect Park District Rates. He was advised to
contact the Prospect Heights Park District Administration Office. He also noted that Camp McDonald Road is
in need of repairs and street cleaning. Resident was advised this is a County road and staff will contact the
County.

had nothing to report.
Lizzet Stone
thanked staff for Coffee with Council events and provided updates on special events. The Family

Bike Ride will take place on August 15.
Howard Bychowski
reminded us to bring our own bags to Jewel and other stores since plastic bags are not able
to be recycled. Also had a discussion on obesity, and asked if the tax on food could be increased? Further
discussion on this topic took place. Representative Nekritz advised a soda pop tax has been proposed in the past
and further discussion on taxes took place.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 AM.
