Chair Judy Thorne called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m.
II. Minutes of the November 20, 2014 were approved. Gary Randant moved and Bob Usnik seconded.
III. Citizens to be Heard: None
IV. Mayor's Comments: None
V. Chair's Comments: Thorne sent out an E -Mail congratulating Diana Sahakian and Janice Farley
upon receiving the Shining Star Award. She would like to fill a table of Sister City members.
Thorne typed a new up-to-date calendar of events. Also, she made up an inventory of Sister Cities
party supplies after the Pot Luck Dinner last April and placed the items in a drawer marked for Sister
Cities in the File Storage room at Village Hall. It seems they have disappeared.
VI. Treasurer's report: Skip Farley explained the report. It was seconded by R. Sahakian and approved.
Balance as of December 31, 2014 was $15,398.27.
VII. Committee Reports:
a. January 23 Trivia Night: Tricia Fusilero, Chairman, needs help with set up (at 4:30 p.m.), wine table,
check-in, sales table and raffle. There is a need for raffle prizes and wine. Lorrie Huber and Mary
Ann Sibrava agreed to be judges. Denise Rano will emcee.
b. Luncheon and Fashion Show: March 26, 2015, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cost is undecided.
Venue is L'Eiffel Bistro in South Barrington. Fashions will come from Chico's. Diana and Rafi
Sahakian are chairing this event. Paula Randant suggested baskets for raffle prizes, and she will
work on this.
C. Brochure: It was suggested that Sister Cities business cards be made up for members to hand out
rather than brochures. The cards would have addresses for the Sister Cities website and Facebook.
R. Sahakian will help design and look into the cost. He will also explore the creation of a website
which could support more information and photos than is allowed on the village website
which would provide a link to this separate site. Domain name cost was estimated by Paula Randant
to be $20 per year.
d. Facebook: It was discussed that Sister Cities should have its own brand to use on all publicity
so that it can immediately be identified. This will eliminate the need for creating new posters, etc.
Just the dates, times and places would be changed. It was questioned whether we could pay for a
designer. R. Sahakian will look into the cost of individual event logos. It was ultimately decided
the logo of Sister City International could be used free of charge, hereby creating greater initial
recognition and uniformity from event to event.
e. German Sister City Sub -committee: Chairman Skip Farley reported that we were turned down
by one town and the committee is continuing to pursue more towns, depending more on Sister
Cities International.
VIII. Sevres/Mount Prospect relationship: Thorne reported that communications had been established
between our two towns in November and that she, Mayor Arlene Juracek, Mary Ann Sibrava, and
Farley talked on Skype to the Mayor of Sevres, Assunta Mesmin, Fanny Herve and another
official. They would like a small group of 5-6 to visit in June; however, since air rates are better
in May, Thorne will ask about a May 8 date to commemorate V -E Day.
IX. Open Discussion: Since there are so many activities and not enough time to discuss at each
by -monthly meeting. Thorne asked the committee to think about meeting monthly.
Motion to adjourn by Irvana Wilks at approximately 7:13 p.m. and seconded by Lorrie Huber. Approved.
Respectfully submitted,
Janice Farley
