HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/14/2015 CWC Minutes MINUTES VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT COFFEE WITH COUNCIL SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2015 Community Center st 1 Floor Village Hall The meeting convened at 9:00 a.m. with Trustee Rogers and Trustee Zadel present. Edward Street David Schein Na Wa Ta Avenue Trustee Rogers opened the meeting with general remarks and introductions. John Elenberger, S. Redwood Drive Mr. Elenberger and River Road and asked if the Village will receive any revenue from sales. Trustee Rogers responded the sales will be for medical purposes and a portion of the 1% revenue would go to the Village. Acting Village Manager Strahl said it is treated as a prescription. Additionally, Mr. Elenberger asked if the Village could do anything about people walking in the middle of the street, as it is very dangerous. Mr. Elenberger understands in the winter sidewalks are covered with snow, but it is a concern. This led to a lengthy discussion of snow removal on sidewalks and what ways to educate the public on the importance of clearing public sidewalks. Chief Janowick responded that when officers see these situations, they assess the situation and try to help. Jim Chylik, Locust Lane Mr. Chylik asked about the calls residents received during the snowstorm regarding garbage pickup. His neighbors received calls or messages on their answering machines, but he was out shoveling and he did not receive a message on his answering machine and wondered why. Mr. Strahl advised dispatch sends the message out and they do the best they can. Coffee with Council Minutes Page 1 of 3 02/14/15 Walter Szymczak, N. Eastwood Mr. Szymczak discussed the new transmitter on the water meter, which was recently install at his home and asked if the entire Village would be getting the transmitters. Trustee Rogers responded they are in the process of updating all meters throughout the Village, except for the customers with American Water. Mal Holec, Quince Lane Mr. Holec stated he does not think it is smart to get national organizations involved in elections. Additionally, he discussed the meeting with the Executive Airport and asked if there would be Village representation. Trustee Rogers stated even if approved, it could take 10 years to complete. Mr. Strahl suggested the residents impacted should go, as their presence is important. He also advised they are not looking to have larger planes, but to have planes take off with a full load of fuel. Mrs. Rogers added her home will be impacted and she believes it will eventually happen. Carol Tortorello, S. Elmhurst Aveue Ms.Tortorello inquired if the Village has an ordinance regarding the times garbage cans can be placed at curbside and storage of the cans, as she has a friend complaining about her area. Mr. Strahl advised to her to contact Public Works first with the address. Louis Goodman, N. School Street Mr. Goodman had no issues. Jerry Boldt, N. School Street Mr. Boldt is concerned with the ongoing problem of snow removal on the sidewalks and he would like to see the Village have an ordinance. Trustee Rogers responded there is no way to enforce it, except through public education. Additionally, he expressed concern about the number of people he has observed driving while using a cell phone and how the ordinance is being enforced. Trustee Zadel advised this is much like the snow removal, as it is difficult and costly to enforce. When the Police Chief was asked about officers and cell phone use, he responded officers are exempt, but the department has a policy prohibiting officers from talking on a cell and added we need to combine enforcement with public education. Teri Markovits, Briarwood Drive Ms. Markovits inquired regarding the shootings she read about in the newspaper recently. Chief Janowick explained the recent events were gang related events and the outcome of these events. He stated the police department has started a Special Operations Unit dedicated to gang enforcement. The regional, there will be Regional Gang Meetings with other police departments. Barbara & Steve Van Arsdale, Can Dota Avenue Barbara Van Arsdale asked if there is a designated bus stop by Keefers Pharmacy for the Dana Point bus when they waiting for the Metra, as the bus uses up several parking spaces. Chief Janowick responded that if they are occupying spaces and not violating a time restriction, the police cannot do anything. Ken Koeppen, S. Linneman Road Mr. Koeppen discussed the Smart Meter and NICOR pamphlet he received in the mail. He also brought to the councilBel Aire Lane cul-de-sac where a fire hydrant is located in the center section covered with snow. He was advised it is the responsibility of the homeowners to clear it, but should it continue Trustee Rogers said he should contact Public Works. Jan Kent, Briarwood Drive Ms. Kent inquired about the status of the annexation of the Lynn Court area and Trustee Zadel said he was happy to respond that Mayor Juracek recently sent a letter to the Executive Director of the Tollway, as they are very amenable to discussion. Trustee Zadel added the Village has put together a package with their request starting the process. Coffee with Council Minutes Page 2 of 3 02/14/15 Colleen Saccotelli, N. Willie next Monday. Wille Street Attended just to listen. Joel Zielke, S. Edward Street Mr. Zielke expressed his concern regarding a safety issue at Edward and Prospect. Heading north on Edward at Prospect Avenue, the salt barriers on the median make it difficult to see westbound cars on Prospect Avenue when making a left turn. Chief Janowick said Public Works would have the site lines checked and Trustee Rogers asked Mr. Strahl to ask the Traffic Safety Commission to check into it. David Schein, Na Wa Ta Avenue Mr. Schein commented on the state prohibiting him from breeding his turtles and he would like a letter writing campaign for relief from this ordinance. Mr. Schein also cautioned everyone to be aware of the flooding scams starting and the agency is already providing handouts for residents. He also discussed the fire insurance ratings and that Mount Prospect needs four more firefighters for our population to achieve the best rating.
