Village of Mount Prospect
Mount Prospect, Illinois
INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: DAVID STRAHL, ACTING VILLAGE MANAGER
FROM: FINANCE DIRECTOR
DATE: FEBRUARY 10, 2015
SUBJECT: RESOLUTION CLOSING SPECIAL SERVICE AREAS (SSA) NUMBER 1 AND
NUMBER 6
PURPOSE:
To present for the Board’s consideration a resolution to close SSA Number 1 and SSA Number 6.
BACKGROUND:
SSA Number 1 was established in June 1979 for the acquisition of the Prospect Meadows Water
Company and for the construction of additions to that system to serve residents of that area. SSA
Number 6 was established in April 1987 for the construction of various road and sidewalk
improvements along sections of Albert Street and George Street to serve the residents of that area.
Property tax levies for these two special service areas have ceased and their operation is no longer
needed.
DISCUSSION:
In December, 2014, the Village received correspondence from the Office of Cook County Clerk
requesting the status of the two subject SSA’s. The County is requesting that if the purpose for
maintaining the special service area no longer exists, a resolution be filed to remove from the tax
rolls.
Included with this memo is a resolution authorizing the Village Board to close both SSA Number 1
and SSA Number 6. The purposes for which they were created have been fulfilled and all financial
obligations incurred by the Village have been satisfied. The final levies for SSA Number 1 and SSA
Number 6 last took place in 1997 and 2004 respectively.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the Village Board approve the attached resolution closing Special Service Areas
Number 1 and Number 6.
