HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/22/2014 SCC Subcommittee Minutes (Draft) draft MOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION GERMAN SUB-COMMITTEE MINUTES 4/22/14 Meeting location: Mount Prospect Public Library I.Call to order by Skip Farley at 7:35PM II.Roll Call: Attendee’s- Skip Farley, Paula Randant, George Busse, Georgia Mitchell, John Eilering III.Approval of minutes: first meeting no minutes IV.Citizens to be heard: none V.Old Business: none VI.New Business: Discussion of Sister Cities and the history of organization and Mount Prospect involvement. Skip had great information of the initial SC process for Mount Prospect. Some discussion of Sister Cities International and availability of help from them. There was significant discussion of Mount Prospect history of German families and connection to Germany. George knew much about history of Busse family. Georgia knew city and regions in Germany and will be at conference in Germany and do some looking into local Sister Cities information. Paula shared SCI information. The northern region seemed to be of interest as there are several German families in the area from that region. There was discussion of type of relationship such as cultural, business/economic and humanitarian. Our French relationship for the most part is cultural. There was discussion of creating networking opportunities, business to business, possibly use of social service connections such as Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis to further a connection. Funding, sponsorship and fund raising was discussed. The type of structure of the organization was also discussed. We could continue with the similar set up as the French SC group, or look at 501 c3 status. A format with an umbrella type structure with French and German groups under a unifying coordinator was discussed. There was some discussion of how it could work and how to combine cultural and economic. Events and fundraising were discussed with Paula and Skip sharing how things currently work. VII.Initial goals and assignments: Paula to contact SCI and find out what German cities are looking for a city. Georgia to do a little exploring while in Germany. As this was initial meeting everyone to be thinking about structure, fundraising, membership, focus (cultural, business/economic), VIII.
