IN THE FIRST FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING, MOUNT PROSPECT, IL. ROLL CALL SECRETARY McCARTHY READ ROLL CALL. APPROVAL OF MINUTES DUE TO ATTENDANCE THERE WAS NO QUORUM AND MINUTES WERE NOT APPROVED. OLD BUSINESS YOUTH VIEW AT THIS TIME, THE NEW BOARD IS NOT READY TO CONTINUE FILMING. CHAIR BYRNE WILL CONTACT GEORGE CLOWES WHEN THE COMMISSION IS READY TO TAPE THE PROGRAM ON SHOPLIFTING. COMMUNITY CENTER CHAIR BYRNE EXPRESSED HER DESIRE TO GET INVOLVED IN THE PLANNING OF THIS CENTER BY ATTENDING MEETINGS, I.E. SENIOR ADVISORY COUNCIL, COFFEE WITH COUNCIL, VILLAGE BOARD, AND COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE, TO NAME A FEW. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT IN THE FUTURE PERHAPS THE YOUTH COMMISSION AND THE SENIOR ADVISORY COUNCIL MEET TO DISCUSS WHAT THEY EACH FEEL COLLECTIVELY IS NECESSARY IN PLANNING THE COMMUNITY CENTER. YOUTH FORUM THE COMMISSION WAS UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS YEAR'S YOUTH FORUM. JULIE AND LAURA HIGGINSON TO DRAFT A LETTER TO OFFICER BILL ROSCOP THANKING HIM FOR HIS TIME. NEW BUSINESS NEW MEMBERS - A DISCUSSION ON PUBLICIZING THE COMMISSION THROUGH DAILY SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS, DAILY SCHOOL VIDEO ANNOUNCEMENTS, ETC. IT WAS DECIDED THAT ANYONE HAVING INTEREST IN THE COMMISSION BE INVITED TO THE NOVEMBER MEETING. IT WAS ALSO SUGGESTED THAT THE COMMISSION WORK ON AN ARTICLE DESCRIBING THE YOUTH COMMISSION THAT COULD BE GIVEN TO THE AREA NEWSPAPERS FOR PUBLICATION. IT IS TOO LATE TO GET ANYTHING IN THE MOUNT PROSPECT NEWSLETTER THIS FALL BUT PREPARATION FOR THE WINTER NEWSLETTER SHOULD BEGIN. IT WAS DECIDED THAT A MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE BE FORMED. THE COMMITTEE WILL ALSO INQUIRE AS TO WHETHER OR NOT PERMISSION IS NEEDED TO USE COMMISSION MEMBERS' PHOTOS, ADDRESSES, ETC. THE COMMITTEE WILL ALSO BE UPDATING THE YOUTH COMMISSION RESOURCE CATALOG. BOXWOOD BASH THE BASH IS 14 OCTOBER 00 FROM 2:00 -4:00 P.M. AT EUCLID SCHOOL. AIA'S WALPOLE AND SCHEIN ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING. A TABLE WITH THE COMMISSION'S BANNER AFFIXED WILL BE SET UP. SURVEYS AND APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE AND MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO BE THERE TO FIELD QUESTIONS REGARDING THE COMMISSION. THE YOUTH COMMISSION PAMPHLET WAS RECENTLY TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH. T.A.P.P. THE JAYCEES HAVE OFFERED THE COMMISSION HALF OF THE PROFITS SHOULD THE COMMISSION PARTICIPATE IN THE PIZZA CONTEST. THE DISCUSSION WAS TABLED. NO DATE HAS BEEN GIVEN FOR THIS CONTEST. WELCOME TO MOUNT PROSPECT DAY ON SATURDAY, 28 OCTOBER 00 THE VILLAGE WILL BE HOSTING A FAIR AT THE SENIOR CENTER FROM 9:00 -10:30 A.M. AT THIS TIME, REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS IN TOWN WILL BE ON HAND TO ANSWER QUESTIONS REGARDING THEIR SPECIFIC GROUP. IT WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE COMMISSION TO HAVE THEIR INFORMATION PAMPHLET AND MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE. THIS EVENT IS HELD TWICE A YEAR. FORMATION OF COMMITTEES CHAIR BYRNE EXPRESSED HER DESIRE TO DELEGATE CERTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE MEMBERSHIP, I.E., SURVEY, RESOURCE CATALOG, SHIRTS, WEB SITE (PATRICK FRANK/BRENT BUSSE), ETC. EACH COMMITTEE WOULD IN TURN REPORT BACK TO CHAIR BYRNE. THE NEED FOR STRUCTURE IN THE FORM OF COMMITTEES IS NECESSARY TO SUCCESSFULLY FULFILL THE GOALS OF THE COMMISSION. CHAIR BYRNE AND CO- CHAIRS JULIE AND LAURA HIGGINSON HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO UPDATE COMMISSION CARDS. ATTENDANCE THE NEED FOR RULES REGARDING ATTENDANCE APPEARS TO BE OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE. CHAIR BYRNE ASKS THAT THE COMMISSION MEMBERS CONTACT HER IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND A MEETING. AN E -MAIL REMINDER OF THE MEETING DATE WAS SUGGESTED. ONE POSSIBLE RULE DISCUSSED WAS THAT AFTER THREE MEETINGS WITHOUT AN EXCUSE THERE COULD BE A POSSIBLE PROBATIONARY STATUS. IT APPEARS THAT THE COMMISSION HAS LOST SOME OF ITS MEMBERSHIP. THOSE INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE NOT ATTENDED A MEETING IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS WILL NOT BE RE- APPOINTED IF THEY ARE NOT HEARD FROM BY OUR NOVEMBER MEETING. A/A LOHRSTORFER WILL TAKE THE ACTIVE NAMES TO THE MAYOR FOR REAPPOINTMENT. FUTURE PROJECTS IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE COMMISSION PLAN ON PARTICIPATING IN NEXT YEAR'S BLOCK PARTY. THIS EVENT PROVED TO BE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL AND IT WOULD BE A GOOD CHANCE FOR THE COMMUNITY TO GET TO KNOW THE COMMISSION AND THE COMMISSION TO GET TO KNOW THE NEEDS OF THEIR COMMUNITY. THE MAYOR IS REQUESTING THAT THE COMMISSION COME UP WITH IDEAS WITH REGARD TO STORES AND RESTAURANTS THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN THE VILLAGE. THE MAYOR ALSO ASKS THAT THE COMMISSION REVIEW THE SMOKING ORDINANCE. A CIGARETTE STING OPERATION IS IN THE PLANNING STAGES. MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW AS IT BECOMES AVAILABLE.
