MINUTES
October 7, 2013

Chairman Busse called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Busse asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the September 9, 2013, Open Meeting.
A motion was made by Commissioner Powers and seconded by Commissioner Bennett to approve the
minutes.
Voice Vote: Ayes: G. Busse, Bennett, M. Busse, Powers, Skowron Nays: None Abstain: Motion Carried
CITIZENS TO BE HEARD
No one in attendance.
FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE
Chief Malcolm reported the department is currently at full strength. The Board discussed the timeline
book for the Mount Prospect Fire Department 100 Years of Service, which was included in their packets.
The Chief reported the Fire Department Open House was a success and approximately 500 people
attended the pancake breakfast. Additionally, the Fire Department will be involved with the food drive on
Saturday at Jewel and Costco to benefit the Food Pantry. Chief Malcolm also provided an update on the
status of the Lieutenants test.
POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE
Chief Semkiu reported on department staffing which is currently at 84 with an authorized strength of 83
and provided a brief update on probationary officers. The Chief also reported a sergeant is attending the
School of Staff and Command at Northwestern University Center for Public Safety.
CLOSED SESSION
A motion was made by Commissioner Skowron and seconded by Commissioner Bennett to go into
Closed Session under personnel 5 ILCS 120/2 (c)(1) at 6:15 p.m. to approve closed session minutes and
discuss oral interview process.
Roll Call: Ayes: G. Busse, Bennett, M. Busse, Power3, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried
The Board returned to open session at 7:16 p.m. with everyone present from the previous session.

OTHER BUSSINES
There was a brief discussion on attending the Illinois Fire & Police Commissioners Conference.
There will be a meeting on November 18 before the interviews and the December meeting will be on the
9 th at 5:30 p.m.
With no further business, a motion was made by Commissioner Bennett and seconded by Commissioner
Skowron to adjourn the meeting at 7:21 p.m.
