HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 06-89 03/21/1989 RESOLUTION NO. 6-89 A RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY ]8, 1989 AS "A LIFETIME OF CONTRIBUTION DAY" IN RECOGNITION OF THE FIRST ANNUAL SENIOR CITIZEN CELEBRATION DAY WHEREAS, education is a lifelong process; and WHEREAS, public education is a community enterprise; and WHEREAS, community education philosophy advocates fuU use of public facilities I programs and services by every age group in the community; and WHEREAS, the ski11s, talents and experiences of senior citizens are untapped I resources in many communities; and I WHEREAS, inter-generational cooperation promotes efficient use of human I resources; and WHEREAS, local residents have a right to be involved in deciding how the resources of their communities will be used; and WHEREAS, community education promotes the use of community resources and community volunteers in schools, senior citizen centers and community agencies, the use of human resources to provide educational opportunity for community residents of aU ages; interagency cooperation to maximize the use of existing human resources and citizens' involvement in educational decision-making; and WHEREAS, the goal of community education is to promote a sharing, caring, learning community; and WHEREAS, "A Lifetime of Contribution" is the theme of Senior Citizens' Celebration Day co-sponsored by the High School District 2]1 . community education program and the Village of Mount Prospect to encourage and develop programs and activities to meet the needs of all the citizens in High School District 214 and the Village of Mount Prospect. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount 1 Prospect do hereby proclaim May 18, 1989 as "A Lifetime of Contribution Day" in . recognition of the First Annual Senior Citizen Celebration Day and caU upon the, I residents of High School District 214 and Mount Prospect residents to recognize and celebrate the bonds they have discovered, the partnerships they have formed and the sense of community they have strengthened through community education programs. SECTION TWO: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. AYES: Trustees Ralph Arthur, Gerald Farley, Leo Floros, Norma Murauskis, George Van Geem and Theodore Wattenberg Mayor Carolyn H.
