HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 24-13 09/17/2013 Adopting the August 2013 Urban Forest Management PlanRESOLUTION NO. 24 -13 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE AUGUST 2013 URBAN FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect has a long history of providing a high level of services to its citizens in regards to the Village's urban forest; and WHEREAS, the Village recently contracted with Urban Forestry LLC to work with Public Works staff to prepare an updated Urban Forest Management Plan (plan); and WHEREAS, Urban Forestry LLC prepared, and presented to the Village Board at the September 10, 2013 Committee of the Whole meeting, a comprehensive plan which examines the Village's past and present urban forest management practices and provides recommendations for the future; and WHEREAS, the proposed plan noted that the Village's current urban forest management program provides a return of $2.29 for each dollar spent on the care of the Village's parkway trees; and WHEREAS, the plan further noted that the Village's 23,724 parkway trees have an appraised value of $118 million, and the majority of these trees are in very good to excellent condition largely owing to the routine maintenance they receive; and WHEREAS, the plan recommends that the Village, use best efforts to continue funding an urban forest management program featuring five -year rotational pruning as its cornerstone as well as continued planting efforts emphasizing species diversity, to the extent budget conditions allow; and WHEREAS, at the September 10, 2013 Committee of the Whole presentation the Village Board unanimously supported adoption of the plan to guide future urban forest management decisions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: That the President and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby approve and adopt the August 2013 Urban Forest Management Plan prepared by Urban Forestry LLC. SECTION TWO: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by the law.
