JANON1S FROM: PROJECT ENG1NEER DATE: JANUAI~Y 28,2004 SUBJECT: WE-GO TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS RFCOJ\lMENDATlON FOR PARKING RESTRICTIONS The Village Board of Trustees has recommended to enact parking restrictions along \Ve-Go Trail between Lincoln Street and Shabonee Trail. Tn December 2003, the Safety Commission discussed at great length the upcoming improvements to We- Go Trai1. By a vote of 6-3, a recommendation was passed along to the Village Board of Trustees to construct a 24' wide pavement with curb and gutter on both sides of the street, lower the speed limit from 30mph to 25mph, and not constTUct a side\valk a]ong the west side of the stTeet. The recommendation also included allowing parking on both sides of the street. The Vdlage Board of Trustees first heard and discussed this issue at tl1cir January 6, 2004 VilJage Board Meeting. No decision \vas made at that time. At the January 20, 2004 ViJlage Board Meeting, the Vil1age Board of Trustees put to a separate vote each of the issues from the Safety Commission's recommendation. The rcsuIts were (by a vote of) to: . construct a 19' wide asphalt pavement (4-3) install curb and gutter on both sides of the street (7 -0) lower the speed limit from 30mph to 25mph (dcfen-ed to 2/3/U4 meeting) not constTuct a sidewalk along the \'.lest side of the street (6-1) prohibit parking on the west side of the street (7-0) . . . . Of the five issues, the speed limit reduction and parking restrictions require fonnal approval into ordinance form. Therefore, the Village Board of Trustees recommends to prohibit parking at all times on the west side of We-Go Trail between Lincoln Street and Shabonee Trail (Section 18.2006). P1case include this item on the February 3rd ViJ]age Board Meeting Agenda. A separate memo has already been prepared for the speed limit reduction and is requested to also be included on the February 3rd Village Board Meeting Agenda.
