HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 2969 12/18/1979 S~ V S S P A N A ORDINANCE NO. 2969 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SPECIFIED SECTIONS OF THE BuILDiNG CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT {EREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect Lye determined that it is necessary to the health, safety and welfare of the llage residents to require self-closing doors, smoke detectors and emergency ~hting in existing multiple family dwellings in the Village of ]~{ount Prospect. )W, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: ]TION ONE: Article III of Chapter 21 (Building Code) of the Municipal Code of ti e Village of Mount Prospect be, and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto ai new Section 21. 308 entitled "Special Requirements for Existing Multiple Family ~ Veilings", which said new section shall hereafter be and read as follows: "SECTION 21. 308. Special Requirements for Existing Multiple Family Dwellings. The owners of existing multiple family dwellings Within the Village of Mount Prospect shah comply with the following requirements: A. Self-Closers. Doors between apartments and corridors shall be self-closing. The self-closing device shall be of an approved type. B.- Smoke Detectors. An approved single station smoke detector, battery powered, shall be installed in an approved manner in every living unit wilhin the Multi-Family dwelling. When activated, the detector shall initiate an alarm which is audible in the sleeping rooms of that unit. C. Emerge.n.cy Lighting. Any Multi-Family dwelling with twenty-six (26) or more living units shall have emergency lighting. All emergency lighting shall be in accordance with N.F.P.A. #101, Section 5-9." CTION TWO: The word "approved" for the purposes of this new S ction 21. 305 shall mean - accepted by the auihority having jurisdiction by r, ason of tests or investigations conducted by it or by an agency satisfactory to ti authority, based upon nationally accepted test standards or principles. ]TION THREE: The provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed to be parable, and the invalidity of any portion of this Ordinance shall not affect the .lidity of the remainder.
