However, the attached press release will be issued today, May 2, to the press who cover our meetings. At the Board Meeting, after Richard's appointment is affirmed by you, he will be sworn in by our Village Clerk, Lisa Angell, and will take his seat on the dais. He should fee free to have family or close friends attend. I believe we will have photos taken prior to the meeting. Thanks for allowing that to happen before your formal vote. I'm very pleased to be able to present Richard to you for appointment. He more thar capably assumed the role of chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission when I was elected trustee in 2007, and in working with him • the Commission while I was its chair, I found him to be a thoughtful, professional decision-maker, respectful • all whi testified at hearings, and mindful of the best interests of the Village. Juracek today forwarded to the Village Board the nomination of Richard F. Rogers to fill Juracek's unexpired term as Trustee. If approved by the Village Board on May 7, 2013, Rogers would serve out Juracek's term ending May, 2015. "It is an honor to be asked to serve on the Village Board and to be nominated by Mayor - elect Juracek," said Rogers. "She and I served a number of years together on the Planning and Zoning Commission while she was the chair. Her leadership is remarkable and I respect the entire Board's dedication and service to our community." Mayor -elect Juracek noted, "The Village has important economic development work ahead, especially in our downtown, and Richard Rogers' dual credentials as a licensed architect and a professional engineer will bring a critical perspective to our future deliberations. As a small business owner and long -time resident, Richard brings much appreciated experience to the Village Board." Rogers and his wife, Christina, have been Mount Prospect residents since 1968. They have two children, Mitchell and Cynthia, and two grandchildren. Rogers has served the community for over thirty years. In the early '80's, he served on the Sign Review Board, which later became the Planning and Zoning Commission, and has been a member ever since. In 2007, he was appointed Chair of this Commission. Once the appointment • the qualified person has been forwarded to the corporatc authorities (Village Board), the corporate authorities must act upon the appointment within RM Village of Mount Prospect 50 South Emerson Street Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 .*$hone: 847/392-6000 Fax: 847/392-6022 www.mountDro$A!Cct.I PROCLAMATION “NATIONAL POLICE WEEK” May 12 - 18, 2013 WHEREAS, there are more than 900,000 sworn law enforcement officers serving in communities across the United States, including the members of the Mount Prospect Police Department; and WHEREAS, some 60,000 assaults against law enforcement officers are reported each year, resulting in approximately 16,000 injuries; and WHEREAS, since the first recorded death in 1791, more than 19,000 law enforcement officers in the United States have made the ultimate sacrifice and been killed in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, the names of these dedicated public servants are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D. C., and WHEREAS, each year new names of fallen heroes are being added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial, currently there are 19,981 names engraved on the walls; and WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of all officers killed in the line of duty will be honored during the th National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund’s 25 Annual Candlelight Vigil, on the evening of Monday, May 13, 2013; and WHEREAS, the Candlelight Vigil is part of National Police Week, which takes place this year on May thth 13 – 19; and th WHEREAS, May 15 is designated as National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, in honor of fallen officers and their families. NOW, THEREFORE , I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of May 12 - 18, 2013 as “NATIONAL POLICE WEEK” in the Village of Mount Prospect and publicly salute the service of law enforcement officers in our community and in communities across the nation. And, I call upon all individuals to recognize the dedicated men and women of the Village of Mount Prospect Police Department for their efforts to maintain our peaceful community and to also remember the fallen or disabled members of law enforcement agencies throughout our country. ____________________________ Arlene A. Lisa Angell Village Clerk th Dated this 7 day of May, 2013 PROCLAMATION “NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK” May 19 – 25, 2013 WHEREAS, the services provided by the Public Works Department in our community are an integral part of our citizens’ everyday lives; and WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed community is vital to the efficient operation of a public works system and its many programs relating to water, sewers, streets and highways, public buildings, public grounds, solid waste collection, recycling, trees, and snow removal; and WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design and construction are dependent upon the efforts and skills of public works employees; and WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by the people’s attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Public Works Department will have an Open House on Saturday, May 18, 2013, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., to acquaint the residents of Mount Prospect with the many services provided by the Public Works Department. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. JURACEK DATE: MAY 2, 2013 SUBJECT: CHAIR APPOINTMENT Planning and Zoning Commission Chair Appointment Joseph P. Donnelly, P.E. Appointed Chair of P&Z to 1104 Juniper Lane replace Richard Rogers who December 2001. With the approval of Richard Rogers as Village Board Trustee on May 7, 2013, 1 recommend the nomination of Joseph Donnelly as Chair of the Planning & Zoning Commission. Joe has indicated a willingness to serve as Chair of Planning and Zoning, is respected by his colleagues, and would make an excellent Chairperson in my opinion, thus I heartily recommend his confirmation.
