ATTEST: Gerald L. Farley Mayor Velma W Lowe Village Clerk Dated this 2na day of December, 2003. Village of ~/lount I~rospect Mount Prospect, Illinois INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE:. SUBJECT: MAYOR GERALD L. FARLEY AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES VILLAGE MANAGER NOVEMBER 11,2003 REQUEST FOR CLASS P LIQUOR LICENSE ALDI, INC. D/B/A/ALDt'S FOOD STORE 730 EAST RAND ROAD On Tuesday, November 11, 2003, the Village Manager met with Mr. Mauro Bustos, District Manager and Mr. John Skrzypinski, Aldi's Store Manager, to discuss Aldi corporate's request for a Class P Liquor License (sale of packaged beer and wine only) for use in conjunction with the currently operating grocery store at 730 East Rand Road. AIdi's operates a 14,000 square foot grocery store on an outlot next to the Menard's Home Center. Aldi's leases the facility from Menard's. Earlier this year, Aldi's made a corporate decision to add the sale of packaged beer and wine to its product offerings. They are currently seeking Liquor Licenses for all of their North American stores. As a side note, Aldi's European operation is one of the largest purveyors of beer and wine in Europe. Atdi's currently operates Monday through Saturday each week. No renovations to the existing store are planned. Per corporate policy, all store managers receive Basset training. Corporate policy will also require that all purchasers of beer and wine be checked for age; not just those who appear to be under 21. The Village Manager discussed at length with Messrs. Bustos and Skrzypinski the Village's particular sensitivity regarding the sale of alcohol to minors as well as sales to clearly intoxicated persons. Both indicate that they had read the Village's Liquor Code and understood all of its requirements. The Village Manager also indicated that all employees of the establishment were held to the same level of accountability regarding Liquor Code requirements and that the transgression of a single employee, no matter how unintentional, would result in stiff sanctions imposed by the Village. he appropriate application along with fees and required paperwork have been submitted. Appropriate Officers and Managers are currently submitting to background checks and fingerprinting. Insurance certificates are forthcoming. Should the Village Board consider the request favorably, an Ordinance creating a new Class P License would be necessary. M EJ/rcc ORDINANCE NO.
