HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/15/2003 SWC minutes OUNT PROSPECT SOLID WASTE COMMISSION May 15, 2003 MEETING MINUTES PRESENT George Luteri, Rod Mobus, Pankaj Parikh, Mary Winkler, and Ken Westlake. Lisa Angell Public Works ABSENT Mary Rosen CALL TO ORDER Chairman Luteri called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes from the March 20, 2003 meeting were approved as written. CITIZEN FORUM No individuals were in attendance to address the Commission. SOLID WASTE PROGRAMS AND DATA Date from January, February, March and April were included in the May meeting packet. There have been no significant changes in the residential program. The Coordinator reported that SWANCC was sponsoring a Public Works Hazardous Waste collection for member communities. The Public Works Department determine if there are any "unwanted "hazardous materials. SWANCC will pay up to $2,000 per community. OTHER · Reuse/Recycling of Sports Equipment Commissioner Mobus reported that he was unable to find alternative disposal options for the used sports equipment.. The used equipment was disposed as garbage. [At the March meeting he had asked for suggestions for "reusing" or "recycling used sports equipment.] · 2003 Open House Several Commissioners volunteered to work at the May 17th, Open House. However, most were unable to commit to the 4th of July parade. The Commission will have a Recycling "Float" and staff will help with the collection of recyclable beverage containers along the parade route. The Coordinator reported that the Public Works Department received approximately 12 64-gallon recycling toters for use at public events such as the Open House. NEXT MEETING The July 3, 2003 meeting was cancelled. The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2003 in the Public Works Facility, 1700 West Central Road at 7:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, M.
