Scott Staff Liaison: Maura Jandris The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. Report on Trip to Sbvres Irvana reported that the tom was beautifully decorated for their arrival with U.S. and French flags on the lightpoles and the delegation received a warm welcome. They toured schools, Versailles, Peace Pole dedication & Armistice Day ceremony, Givemey, a tour of Paris, Porcelain Factory and attended a banquet in their honor. They made a lot of new friends. Report on Visit of Sbvres Conservatory The Commission reviewed a report prepared by Judy Thorne regarding the visit. Host families were needed to house the visitors. Lil Floros reported that Judy Thorne and Dorothy Kucera would be attending a Special Events Commission meeting to ask for their assistance with the visit. The dates of the visit are Oct. 25 - 31. Policy for Visits The Commission reviewed a draft policy from Irvana Wilks. A discussion took place with regard to the need to define "official" in categorizing visits. It was also determined that a framework should be established for processing employment requests from S~vres. 4th of July Parade Report The Commission had a float in the 4th of July Parade and members passed out flyers about the visit of the Conservatory. The float featured a model of the peace pole constructed by Yngve and Carole Bloomquist and decorated by the Public Works Department. The peace pole model and banners will be stored at Public Works. Budget Report The Commission has $306.57 remaining in its budget. The Mayor suggested that the Commission think about projects that would generate revenue so they could be more self-sufficient. Irvana commented that it was helpful to go to conventions and get ideas from other communities. Dorothy suggested thinking of a fundraiser. Several ideas were discuSsed: Bastille Day, Downtown Block Party. Le Sevrien - Translation Melanie Karsen translated an article from Le Sevrien about the trip to S~vres. MAYOR Gerald L. Lisa Angell Public Works ABSENT Mary Rosen CALL TO ORDER Chairman Luted called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes from the March 20, 2003 meeting were approved as written. CITIZEN FORUM No individuals were in attendance to address the Commission. SOLID WASTE PROGRAMS AND DATA Date from January, February, March and APril were included in the May meeting packet. There have been no significant changes in the residential program. The Coordinator reported that SWANCC was sponsoring a Public Works Hazardous Waste collection for member communities. The Public Works Department determine if there are any "unwanted "hazardous materials. SWANCC will pay up to $2,000 per community. OTHER · Reuse/Recycling of Sports Equipment Commissioner Mobus reported that he was unable to find alternative disposal options for the used sports equipment.. The used equipment was disposed as garbage. [At the March meeting he had asked for suggestions for "reusing" or "recycling used sports equipment.] · 2003 Open House Several Commissioners volunteered to work at the May 17th, Open House. However, most were unable to commit to the 4th of July parade. The Commission will have a Recycling "Float" and staff will help with the collection of recyclable beverage containers along the parade route. The Coordinator reported that the Public Works Department received approximately 12 64-gallon recycling toters for use at public events such as the Open House. NEXT MEETING The July 3, 2003 meeting was cancelled. The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, September 18, 2003 in the Public Works Facility, 1700 West Central Road at 7:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, M.
