HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/01/2011 CRC MinutesMINUTES COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION Community Center, Village Hall Thursday, December 1, 2011 The Community Relations Commission (CRC) of the Village of Mount Prospect met Thursday, December 1, 2011, at 7:05 p.m. at Mount Prospect Village Hall located at 50 South Emerson Street, Mount Prospect, Illinois. Present: Chairman Tolbert Commissioner Ortiz Commissioner Parikh Commissioner Rose Commissioner Schmalzer Also in Attendance: Michael Semkiu, Deputy Chief of Police IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Commissioner Parikh and seconded by Commissioner Rose to approve the minutes of the August 4, 2011, meeting. The minutes were unanimously approved by voice vote. V. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD No one in attendance. VI. OLD BUSINESS Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) The Community Development Block Grant recommendations from the Commission were approved by the Village Board as submitted. Janet Saewert has been busy scheduling meetings with grant recipients to visit their sites and Ms. Saewert has extended an invitation to the Community Relations Commission members to accompany her on the site visits. Projects for the Future Commissioner Rose attended the 4 th of July parade this year. While watching the parade, she noticed a certain band from the city had poor quality instruments and wondered if there was a donation program for those in need, which led to a discussion on how the commission could help. It was determine they would need to find out the name of the band and their specific needs. Commissioner Schmalzer said he would contact Jill Friedrichs Pope of the Special Events Commission to find out the name of the band and Commissioner Rose will contact Prospect High School to see if there are any available instruments. Commissioner Rose suggested getting the community involved and Commissioner Schmalzer would like to look into an Adopt a Band Program. Chairman Tolbert briefly reviewed the instrument collection program the commission had previously been involved in. Other Projects Commissioner Schmalzer discussed the possibility of the commission helping promote the food drive. Chairman Tolbert will check with Nancy Morgan to see what help they could offer. Minutes Page 2 December 1, 2011 VIII. CORRESPONDENCE The Commission would like to send a letter to the Mayor and Trustees thanking them for thinking of them at this time of year. The next meeting will be held on February 2, 2012. IX, ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m. after a motion was made by Commissioner Schmalzer and seconded by Commissioner Ortiz.
