HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 39-03 09/02/2003RESOLUTION NO. 39-03 "A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE" SEPTEMBER IL 2001 WHEREAS, the unprovoked attacks of September 11, 2001 upon America, by foreign terrorists have thrust the United States, and other countries, into a war it never envisioned, militarily or diplomatically; and WHEREAS, the challenges facing all the civilized people of the world as they relate to the war on terrorism will not end until those responsible are brought to justice; and WHEREAS, America is fully committed to winning the war on terrorism so as to ensure our freedoms remain unfettered and sovereign for all generations, now and forever; and WHEREAS, world opinion needs t o remain focused upon these inhuman acts perpetrated around the globe to ensure they are never repeate& and WHEREAS, one way to accomplish this is to NEVER FORGET that those innocent victims did not die in vain; and WHEREAS, America can fight back by reminding the world that the deaths of these people will always be remembered and they will be forever loved; and WHEREAS, a noble and appropriate way to accomplish this is through the annual celebration of their living; and WHEREAS, this commemoration should be held each September 1! throughout the land to include: · Thepromotion ofglobalpeace and goodwill; · The demonstration of America's resolve and perseverance to win the war on terrorism; · The advancement of responsible citizenship; · The encouragement of patriotism and love of country; and · Thepoignant remembrance of those innocent victims that died on September 11, as heroes, one and all; and WHEREAS, Mount Prospect will commemorate and remember &e events of September 11, 2001 in a number of ways throughout the community including a remembrance ceremony to take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. at the Mount Prospect Police/Fire Building; and WHEREAS, we ask residents and businesses in the community toffy the ffag on September 11 as a reminder of the freedom that we cherish and as a sign of solidarity and support for our country. OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: That this Resolution is hereby approved to memorialize those men, women, and children who lost their lives. SECTION TWO: That this Resolution shall be publicized for all to see and know that the citizens of Mount Prospect remember with eternal respect those whose lives were suddenly, without cause, and pointlessly taken from them on September 11, 2001, and those who willingly and sacrificially offered themselves and their services on behalf of the victims and their families; may they forever rest in peace and abide in our memories.
