Minutes of October 6, 2012

Call to Order 8:58 a.m.
Appointments and Resignations Donna Kronan has been appointed to the SEC by Mayor Wilks. Sylvia Haas
has tendered her resignation. It has been determined this commission needs three (3) members to replace
Sylvia Haas, Della Baldwin and Dawn Fletcher Collins.
Secretary's Report The Minutes from September 1, 2012 were e- mailed to members in advance. Motion to
approve the Minutes from September 1, 2012 was made by Kathy Janonis, seconded by Christina Greco. No
discussion was held, motion approved unanimously. Motion to approve the Minutes from July 7, 2012 as
presented by Mike Janonis made by Jill Friedrichs, seconded by Fred Steinmiller. Discussion was held to
accept a scanned copy of the minutes. Motion was approved unanimously.
Citizens to Be Heard No citizens in attendance.
Financial Report The Treasurer's Report was distributed by Mike Janonis. There was no discussion and the
Treasurer's Report was accepted as presented.
Christkindlemart Applications have been sent out, looking for approximately 30 crafters. There is a graduated
fee schedule. To date we have received one (1) application, Jill Friedrichs will be checking the P.O. Box. The
event will be November 21 set -up begins at 2:00 and the event runs from 4:00 to 7:00. Volunteers are
needed until 8:00 to assist venders.
House Decorating Paul Seils will hand out area assignments at the November meeting. Preliminary judging
will take place December 1— 5 and final judging will take place in time for winners to be announced at the
December 11, 2012 Village Board Committee of the Whole meeting. The event will be advertised on the
events sign, MPTV and Facebook. There will be $25. gift cards to Menards given to the winners in each
category.
Celestial Celebration The theme: Celebrating 20 Years of Shining Stars. Advertising will take place in many
forms: rack cards, posters, bus posters, banners, easel signs, Facebook, website, blast text and Experience
Mount Prospect. Markets could cost between $800. and $1,300. SEC will need approximately $5,000. to
cover expenses for the event. This year reservations will also be accepted on -line with PayPal payment, paper
reservations will also be accepted. Ticket cost will stay at $45. Look into the possibility of the group
Serendipity to play for the evening. Need to check with Victoria in the Park Banquets on the sound system
they have on site. Suggestion was made that maybe some dance professionals come in, do a demonstration
then give instruction to attendees at beginning of dancing.
New Business None
Other Business The next meeting of the Special Events Commission will be November 3, 2012 possibly taking
place at Victoria in the Park Banquets. If this happens please have questions ready for the venue.
