Minutes: May 17, 2012
Attendees: Paula Randant, Judy Thorne, John Korn, Skip & Janice Farley, Rachel Toeppen,
Tricia Fusilero, Dorothy Kucera, John Sibrava, Gary Randant, Barbara Vanleesdale, Irvana
Wilks, Maura El Metennani.
Not Attending: Paul Seils, Mary Ann Sibrava, Lorrie Huber, Ed Juracek
L The meeting was called to order by Dorothy at 5:43 PM.
II. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
III. Citizens to be heard.
IV. Treasurer's Report: Skip Farley reviewed the report and it is attached to the
minutes.
V. Mayor's Remarks- Mayor Irvana Wilks
Irvana thanked Commission members for taking Open Meeting act training and test. All
members completed the training and test. Entry to the City Hall building after hours was
discussed and Irvana suggested that the Commission chair have a keycard and see that it gets to
the person who needs it for a meeting or event. A time to discuss the ordinance for Sister Cities
was discussed. John Sibrava reviewed the ordinance and will lead discussion. It is planned to
look at ordinance at the July 19 meeting.
VI. Chair Remarks- Dorothy Kucera
Dorothy asked for volunteers to take inventory of Sister Cities items. Gary and Barbara
volunteered to help. Dorothy discussed a citizen wishing to borrow some Sister Cities items for
a 95 birthday party. Dorothy also shared information on the State Convention in Dixon. She
enjoyed the speakers and the event.
VII. Reports
a. Pot Luck Dinner -Judy Thorne
Judy presented a written report on the event. The event was well attended. It resulted
in a profit of $630.74. See report attached to minutes.
b. French Film program- Ed Juracek
Ed was unable to report or attend meeting, his wife is having surgery.
c. French Library Programs -John Sibrava
John reported for Mary Ann. All events at the Library are moving ahead. Rose N. will
be the entertainment at the French Family Festival on July 14 Bastille Day. Everyone
one is encouraged to attend it will be held from 11 to 12 Saturday morning.
A brochure on the Book Crossing for 2012 was shared. It names books and format and
is attached to the minutes.
d. Wine and Cheese Tasting- Lorrie Huber - no report at this time.
e. 4 th of July Parade -Gary Randant
Gary asked for volunteers to march. Tricia said she would march in the parade as did
Gary and Paula Randant. There will be a cart and banners for the marchers.
f. French Market- Maura El Metennani- Save the date- September 9, 2012.
g. Sevres Delegation 2013 visit -Paula Randant
Paula reported that a committee meeting would be held at Village Hall on June 14 at
530 PM.
VIII. Open Discussion
a. Rachel reported that she would be going to France in September.
b. Judy Thorne reported that the French speaking group that started at the Pot Luck have
gotten together to start meeting. Their first meeting was 5/14/12.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 PM.
The next meeting will be July 19, 2012 at 5:30 PM in the Village Hall.
