Marlene Friedrichs attended and reported for Jill. Mailing went out to 153 organizations and businesses. 11 floats have been finalized; no more floats are available. Several commission members volunteered to help line up cars on that day. 4. Welcome to Mount Prospect. The event was the best ever with around 75 new residents attending. The prizes proved to be a very good added interest. Date for the next event: October 24, 1998. 5. Do It Yourself Sousa. The band will be the biggest ever with around 140 participating. Laura passed out a draft of the program and a budget report. Elmer Blasco will be in charge of photography. The ERA American Brokers are donating 550 flags to pass out that day. 6. Veteran's Memorial. As of May, $174,000 has been received. Many thanks to Representative Carolyn Krause who was able to obtain $50,000 for the project. The Committee will zero in on the business establishments and will be asking churches to include the smaller brochure in their Sunday bulletins. The design has been modified to fit the budget and it is hoped that the project can soon begin. However, the park district is dragging their feet in tearing down the garage where the memorial sight was proposed to be. The problem is where to store all the equipment in the garage. 7. Laury Youngquist was approached on the idea of selling entertainment books. Motion was made and failed. 8. There was a discussion on whether the commission should have such a large financial balance. No official action was taken, but the consensus was that the commission should hold on to the money for future events. Respectfully submitted, Janice Farley, Secretary
