HomeMy WebLinkAboutSEC Minutes 08/01/1998MOUNT PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION Minutes Saturday, August 1. 1998, 9:00 a.m. Trustee's Room, Village Hall ATTENDING: Della Baldwin, Corky Dunn, Leo Floros, Lil Floros, Fran Higley, Linda Hoefert, Mike Janonis, Laura Luteri, and Terri Pistone Absent: Elmer Blasco, Dale Draznin, Steve Durlacher, Janice Farley, Jill Friedrichs, and Laury Younquist I. The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Leo Floros, Co- Chairman. II. Minutes of the June 6, 1998 were approved as distributed. III. Financial Report - There was no official report. Lil Floros reported that there was a ballance of approximately $6,800. IV. Fourth of July Parade. The following committee was appointed to plan the 1999 Parade. Jill Friedrichs, Chairman, Dale Draznin, Della Baldwin, Leo Floros and Mike Janonis ex officio. V. Veterans Memorial Foundation. A final $50,000 is needed to complete this project. 260 letters were sent out to members of the community. So far there has been a 17% reply. The Business community will also be personally contacted. VI Celestial Celebration VI There was no formal report. The date is Saturday, February 6. Linda reported that the Band Sub - committee was still exploring possible bands. VI. Shining Stars - No report. VII. Welcome to Mount Prospect The Welcome New Neighbor event will take place on Saturday, October 24, from 9 -11 in the Senior Center. Dale will prepare the mailing to all new residents. There will be Mount Prospect related prizes. Motion: It was moved and seconded to spend up to $100 to buy some gift certificates from local businesses to give as door prizes at the Welcome New Neighbor event. Ayes: all Nays: None Motion Carried. Absent: Blasco, Draznin, Durlacher, Farley, Friedrichs, and Younquist VIII. Other Business Leo once again asked if there was any interest in sponsoring a local art fair. There was some support for a late - summer /early fall activity which might include a juried art fair. Mike Volunteered to contact some local residents who have expressed an interest in reprising the concept of "Home Town Days" to see if they would be interested in forming a core group to develop this project. Mike volunteered to chair this exploratory committee. Laura volunteered to help as needed. The Commission has been contacted concerning the Village's Vehicle Sticker Contest. Laury will be coordinating this effort. Members of the Commission may be invited to vote on any entries in the contest. X. Adjourn - No other business being before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 10:05 a.m. The next meeting of the Commission will take place on Saturday, August 29 1998 at 9:00 a.m. in the Trustees Room of the Village Hall.
