HomeMy WebLinkAboutSEC Minutes 12/05/1998MOUNT PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION Minutes December 5, 1998 ATTENDING: Elmer Blasco, Dale Draznin, Steve Durlacher, Janice Farley, Leo Floros, Lil Floros, Linda Hoefert, Laura Luteri, Laury Younquist 1. The meeting was called to order by Leo Floros. Minutes of the October 31, 1998 meeting were approved. 2. Financial report. Balance as of November 30, 1998: $3719 3. Sounds of the Season. There is need for volunteers for both performances today. 4. Home Decorating Contest. Laury is looking at acrylic awards for the winners. There are 33 nominations. Awards will be given at the December 8 Village Board meeting. 5. Veterans Memorial. Elmer reported that $280,825 has been collected to date. A letter is being sent to 100 local businesses who have not contributed. John Eilering at the Mount Prospect National Bank will match the amount given up to $10,000. The Village Board will need to approve the start of the project, which, it is hoped, will be dedicated on Memorial Day 1999. 6. Celestial Celebration. Lil has received $5100 from local businesses so far. All is going well. 226 tickets have been sold. 7. Shining Star Awards. The committee has met and chose 10 winners from 102 nominations. Laura has called and sent letters to all the winners and those who nominated them, plus to all the rest of the people who made nominations and to those who were nominated. 8. Octoberfest. Steve reported that the Lions Club has officially voted to participate with the Mount Prospect Park Foundation in this event. A meeting is planned for January 4. Steve also asked if the Special Events Commission would help. A motion was made, seconded and approved that the Commission assist in this event. 9. Fourth of July Parade. The new committee of Jill Friedrichs, Dale Draznin, Steve Durlacher, Leo and Lil Floros has met. 10. There is a possibility of a Home Town Days in 1999. The Village has budgeted $5,000 for this event. Hopefully, the Arts Fair can be revived. Respectfully submitted, Janice Farley, Secretary
