HomeMy WebLinkAboutSEC Minutes 06/07/1997MOUNT PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION Minutes June 7, 1997 Attending: Steve Durlacher, Corky Dunn, Janice Farley, Leo Floros, Lil Floros, Linda Hoefert, Laura Luteri 1. Meeting was called to order by Lil Floros. Minutes of the May 3, 1997 were approved. 2. There was no financial report. 3. Do -It- Yourself - Sousa. Laura reported that there should be 130 musicians, ages 11 to 80, participating. She has received $624 through registrations, T -shirts and lunches. Expenses are $742.04 at this date. Channel 6 will be video- taping the concert. 4. Fourth -of -July Parade. Jill Friedrichs sent a report. To date she has initiated or received communications from 107 groups with 40 definite confirmations. Jill was contacted by Mario Nunez who seems to be an active community supporter. He will be taking pictures of the parade. Tentative expenses incurred so far is $11,575.00 There is a need for volunteers to stand guard at various locations near the parade route. Linda Hoefert, Corky Dunn, Steve Durlacher and Leo Floros offered their help. 5. Arts Fair. Linda Hoefert reported for Laury Youngquist that 10 artists have signed up so far. There is a need for volunteers to help supervise the children painting banners on June 21 and 28. 6. Veterans Memorial. Leo reported for Elmer Blasco. This project received a tremendous boost from Rep. Carolyn Krause and Sen. Marty Butler as they included a grant to the Foundation in the budget before Gov. Edgar in the amount of $100,000. The car wash promotion at Busse Car Wash on Memorial Day weekend was not successful due to bad weather. It was suggested that a village -wide garage sale be held with proceeds going to the Foundation. Leo will take the idea to the committee. 7. Welcome to Mount Prospect. Next date is set for October 25, 1997. It was suggested that the commission personally escort new citizens around the room, introducing them to the organizations. Also the commission should telephone groups and new residents during the week before the event to encourage attendance. 8. Holiday Events Calendar. Corky has sent letters to schools with follow -up calls and was received very favorably. A letter will be sent to organizations and churches in August. 9. Laura Luteri handed out copies of Shining Star Awards for 1997 -98. 10. The next meeting will be August 2, 1997. Respectfully submitted, Janice Farley, Secretary
