The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency mandated installation of back flow
devices on all water service lines which may have the potential to cause water
contamination to the municipal water supply. The original mandate was implemented in
1985; however, the IEPA has recently made a special effort to ensure all water utilities
require the installation of such devices in order to comply with the regulations. The
Village has required, since the mandate, that all new construction or plumbing retrofits
install the necessary backflow devices. Of the projected 1200 commercial and
industrial water users within the Village, approximately 20% of the total have the proper
backflow devices.
Attached is information along with a proposed Ordinance describing the steps the
Village must take in order to comply with IEPA regulations. Staff will be in attendance
to explain the procedures involved and answer any questions you may have.
V. REVISING START/END TIME OF COFFEE WITH COUNCIL
Trustee Hoefert recommended the starting time for Coffee with Council be changed to
9:00 a.m. instead of the current 10:00 a.m. start time. He stated that if residents do
come in to talk, it is at the start of the meeting and feels it is not necessary to stay until
12:00 noon, but could stay only until 11:00 a.m., and still be available to residents.
Also, in the cases where joint meetings occur, he recommended a start time of 8:00
a.m.
