MAYORS REPORT 5/6/03 PR 0 CLAMA TION / ) "SENIOR CELEBRATION DA Y" MA Y 14, 2005 WIIEREAS, the skills, talents and experiences of senior citizens are untapped resources in many communities and intergenerational cooperation promotes efficient use of human resources; and WHEREAS, community education promotes the use of community resburces community vohmteers in schools,, senior citizen centers and community agencies, and maximizes the use of human resources to provide educational opportunities for residents of all ages; and WHEREAS, the goal of community education is to promote a sharing, caring, learning community; and WHEREAS, senior citizens have earned our respect and recognition for their past accomplishments, and their present and future contributions; and WHEREAS, "Fifteen Years of Honoring Seniors" is the theme of Senior Celebration Day, co-sponsored by the High School District 214 Community Education Program and the Iqllage of Mount Prospect, to encourage and develop programs and activities to meet the needs of'all the residents in High School District 214 and the Village of Mount Prospect. NOW, THEREFORE, ], Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim May 14, 2003 as "SENIOR CELEBRATION DAY" in Mount Prospect. Furthermore, [ call upon the residents of High School District 214 as well as the residents of Mount Prospect to recognize and celebrate the bonds and partnerships they have formed, and the sense of community they have strengthened through community education programs. PR 0 CLA MA TION "SA VE A LIFE WEEK" MA Y 18 - 24, 2003 WHEREAS, Save a Life Foundation's mission is' training and developing people as volunteers, equipped with life supporting skills to act in an emergency; and WHEREAS, the Save a Life Foundation heightens public awareness and trains people, especially children, in life supporting skills which are essential in maintaining the life of the injured or ill in a man-made or natural emergency until EMS arrives; and WHEREAS, Save a Life Foundation, encourages communities to incorporate the Save a Life for Kids life supporting program for all school age children; and WHEREAS, the Save a Life Foundation will assist these councils with providing citizen training, especially children, in emergency preparedness and life supporting first aid, including Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training; and WHEREAS, the Save a Life Foundation, is' an affiliate of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U. S. Homeland Security 's Citizen Corps; and WHEREAS, the Save a Life Foundation encourages communities to achieve the status of SALF "CERT-ified" by incorporating it into their 'best practices' and demonstrating a commitment to emergency preparedness. NOW, THEREFORE, L Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim May 18-24, 2003 as "SAVE A LIFE WEEK" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I encourage residents' to become trained in basiq life saving first aid techniques. PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS ~VEEK" MA Y 18-24, 2003 WHEREAS, the services provided by the Public Works Department in our community, are an integral part o four citizens' everyday lives; and WItEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed community is vital to the efficient operation ofa public works system and its many programs relating to water, sewers, streets and highways, public buildings, public grounds, solid waste collection, recycling, trees, and snow removal; and WHEREA& the quality and effkctiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design and construction are dependent upon the efforts and skills' of public works employees; and WHEREAS, the ejflciency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially i~uenced by tlre people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Public Works Department will have an Open House on Saturday, May 17, 2003, between the hours of g:00 a.m. and l:OO p. m., to acquaint the residenti' of Mount Prospect with the many services provided by the Public Works Department, NOW, THEREFORE, I, GeraM L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim tire week of May 18-24, 2003 as "NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the various services provided by the Mount Prospect Public Works Department to assure the health, safety and comfort of our residents.
