Lisa Angell Public Works ABSENT Rod Mobus Chairman Luteri began the informal meeting at 7:30 p.m. GENERALDISCUSSION The special meeting was held to discuss the recycling booth at the Public Works Open House. Based on input from ARC Disposal the Solid Waste Coordinator provided suggestions on what the Commission might want to promote at the Open House. The Commission decided to focus on the curbside recycling program. Properly prepared recycling bins will be displayed at the Recycling Booth as well as with the ARC recycling truck. An ARC representative will be available to answer questions on the preparation and sorting of materials for curbside recycling. ARC has indicated the curbside recycling program would be more efficient with less spillage if residents used one bin for all paper fibers and the second bin for all commingled materials. In addition the Commission wanted to highlight recycling of corrugated cardboard. The preparation of corrugated cardboard still seems to be problematic. A substantial amount of corrugated cardboard is lost to the Village's solid waste stream because boxes are not broken/cut down for recycling. A piece of cardboard cut into a 3x3' piece will be on display. Commission members will also remind residents that corrugated can be cut or folded into 3x3' pieces; folded boxes need to be bundled or secured so they don't unfold. An attendance schedule for the Open House was also set up for the Commissioners. Each of the Commissioners volunteered to work at least one hour at the event. The Solid Waste Coordinator will contact Rod Mobus to see if he is available to work. OTHER The Coordinator reported on a recent site visit she made with the Public Works Director to Skokie. The Village of Skokie utilizes a semi-automated collection system for residential recycling. The Village will discuss the potential for this system as well as its benefits with ARC Disposal. NEXT MEETING The next meeting was scheduled for Thursday, June 20th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Public Works Facility, 1700 West Central Road at 7:30 p.m. The Commission will discuss their participation in the Village's Fourth of July parade. The meeting ended at 8:30 p.m. M. Lisa Angell Solid Waste Coordinator X:\U SERS\LANGE LL\WORD\swmnapril2002.doc
