VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT
COFFEE WITH COUNCIL
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2002
9:00 A.M.
2na Floor Conference Room, Village Hall
The meeting was convened at 9:00 a.m. Those present were Mayor Gerald Farley, Trustees Richard
Lohrstorfer and Mike Zadel. Representing staff was Assistant Village Manager Dave Strahl and Director
of Finance Douglas Ellsworth.

Mayor Farley welcomed those in attendance.
Mr. Ray Rubio, 412 N. Elmhurst Road: Mr. Rubio just stopped by to visit with the Board and staff.
Mr. Rubio stated that everything was great as far as he was concerned. Mr. Rubio did mention that the
Village should be careful if it were contemplating purchasing the remaining parcels in the triangle area
because there were two gasoline stations located there and they might contain contaminated soil.
Ms. Carol Tortorello, 223 S. Elmhurst Avenue: Ms. Tortorello inquired as to the status of the Costco
Store. Mayor Farley responded that the Village is still hopeful that the store will go in, but the ball was
really in Randhurst's and Costco's court at this time. Ms. Tortorello suggested that the Village should
require another plan and design review should Costco decide to locate to an outlot location. Mayor Farley
expressed the opinion that he does not like to design buildings for companies looking to build in Mt.
Prospect. Trustee ZadeI thought it might be a good idea to look at the plans again should the location
change.
Ms. Tortorello commented that there wasn't enough music in the Winter Parade. She suggested that each
participating group be asked to learn a different Christmas Carole and sing as they march the parade route.
Trustee Lohrstorfer suggested Ms. Tortorello attend the next Special Events Commission meeting to
suggest the idea.
Charles and Marion Tallian, 1255 W, Prospect Avenue: Ms. Tallian explained that the condominium
she and her husband recently purchased at Kenilworth Place was found to have mold on the walls behind a
large chest that was le~ behind by the previous owners. The Tallian's had a company come in and test the
mold, and it was found to be toxic. Ms. Tallian has attempted to get her condominium association to
acknowledge responsibility due to faulty exterior weatherproofing, but has been unsuccessful. The
Tallian's have spent over $10,000 on tests and repairing the damage. The Tallian's asked if the Village
knew of attorneys that might work for seniors for free or at reduced rates.

Mr. Ellsworth suggested that she contact the attorney that handled their real estate closing to inquire
whether the previous owners had a responsibility to disclose the mold prior to closing. Mr. Strahl
suggested the Tallian's contact the Human Services Department to inquire about attorneys that might do
work at reduced rates.
Mr. David Schein, 512 S. NaWaTa: Mr. Schein brought in orange juice and dates for the group to
enjoy. Mr. Schein said he had nothing particular to bring up. He wanted to stop in and say hello. Later in
the meeting Mr. Schein did ask what the status was on the electronic fee collection system for the
commuter lots. Mr. Ellsworth stated that the Public Works Department expected the system to be in within
the next few months. Mr. Schein suggested the Village be careful and expect problems. He explained that
he knows the former Assistant Engineer in the Village of Glenview and there were significant problems
with their system.
