HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/13/2004 CWC minutesMINUTES VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT COFFEE WITH COUNCIL SATURDAY, MARCH 13, 2004 9:00 A.M. 2ND Floor Conference Room, Village Hall The meeting was convened at 9:00 a.m. Those present were Mayor Gerald Farley and Trustees Tim Corcoran, Paul Hoefert, Richard Lohrstorfer, Michaele Skowron, and Michael Zadel. Representing the Village staff was Assistant Village Manager David Strahl and Deputy Finance Director Carol Widmer. Residents in Attendance Ramon Rubio 412 N. Elmhurst Margaret Lannen 999 N. Elmhurst, a representative of Randhurst Shopping Center, reported that a fast food restaurant has shown interest in the out parcel near the Jewel Supermarket. Also, negotiations are underway with two other businesses for space in the interior of the mall. Ms. Lannen said the Costco project is moving forward on time and Costco expects to open around September 2 of this year. In addition, Randhurst will be updating the mall entrances and plans are underway for repair and replacement of the parking lots over a three -year period. Lee Williams, 70 N. Albert said he is in the process of having his roof replaced. When the Village inspector came out for the roof inspection, he asked to use the Williams' ladder. Mr. Williams thought that was an unusual request. Assistant Village Manager David Strahl said he would talk to the Building Division. Larry Braus, 612 W. Dempster reported that the arrangement with the Lattof YMCA for space for youth activities was not going to take place. He was concerned about finding space in the Village for teen activities. He also said that the Mount Prospect Jaycees have been unable to find a location for their annual carnival. The owners of Mount Prospect Plaza will no longer allow them to hold the carnival on the property. Cathy Dean, Mount Prospect Public Library, John Brennan, 520 Prospect Manor, and Jim Uszler, 9 S. Elm are members of the Cultural Diversity Task Force and came to update the Village Board on some of the plans they are formulating. Cathy said that at their meeting on February 10 the committee discussed the issue of diverse communities within Mount Prospect living in isolation because of language and other cultural issues. Several plans are being formulated in response to the issues identified by the task force. Mr. Brennen said one of the ideas the task force is working on is to identify a Suburban Mosaic Book of the Year for adults and for school children to read in preparation for a discussion in the fall. Ms. Dean said she wants volunteers to host movable feasts so various groups and families can share dialogue in an informal setting. Mr. Uszler said there is going to be an International Festival on September 25 at the Ree Plex. It will be a family event from noon to 6:00 with ethnic food and a business. /expo area as well. An invitation was extended to members of the Village Board to attend a meeting on April 15 at Trinity Church at 7:00 p.m. to meet with members of the Cultural Diversity Task Force. David Schein, 512 NaWaTa ask the Village Board to consider a sample proclamation to recognize the Prospect High School Lady Knights varsity girls basketball team for their exceptional season.
