The regular meeting of the Economic Development Commission of the Village of Mount Prospect was held on Thursday morning, 8:05 a.m., November 3, 1994 at the Village Hall in the Trustees Room, 100 South Emerson Street, Mount Prospect, Illinois. • 1 The meeting was called to order at 8:05 a.m. by Chairman James Ebbinghaus. Members present were: Bruce Gillilan, Norman Kurtz, John Riordan, Dale Jessie, Brian McCarthy, Ben Trapani and Chairman James Ebbinghaus. Also present were William J. Cooney, Director of Planning; Kenneth Fritz, Economic Development Coordinator; Diane Mc Carthy, Intern. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes ofthe October 6th meeting were approved on a motion by John Riordan, seconded by Bruce Gillilan. The motion to approve passed unanimously 7 ayes, 0 nays. CI I t Review Current Business Development Contacts Kenneth Fritz and Bill Cooney reviewed with the Commission the projects that are currently being monitored by the Planning Department and Economic Development staff. The status of the Kensington/Wolf property was reviewed. Shaw Company indicated that a offer had been made by Concord Builders for townhouses. They also called the Village to see if any viable commercial proposals had been received by the Village. Minnesota Fabrics, formerly located at Golf and Elmhurst Roads in Des Plaines, is seeking another site. Properties in Mount Prospect have been identified and preliminary contacts have been made. Prime locations under consideration by Minnesota Fabrics are located in the Arlington Heights/Golf Road area. Winona School of Photography vacated property on Wolf Road has drawn little attention from respective buyers. The 8 acre parcel appears to have more land value than the reuse of the existing building for a business or school. Home Depot is moving ahead with the reconstruction of the Ward's Auto Mart and anticipates extensive demolition work on the major site after the first of the year. Economic Development Commission Minutes Page 2 Kensington Center for Business - ETA Circuit Breakers are under construction for their new building on Bishop Court, while Cummins Allison expansion plans are underway. Illinois Superconductor has recently begun work on interior remodelling for their location, while Vogue Tire has announced that they will be locating their corporate offices along with their major service center in Kensington. Terrace Supply continues to make plans to relocate their business to Wheeling with an early December closing date on their new location schedule. Sears Hardware has a broker working to finalize a plan for submission to DiMucci for a possible location west of Golf Plaza II on Golf Road. If successful, the 20,000 square foot stand -alone hardware store would be built on property currently occupied by the Elk Grove Township Youth and Adult Services facility immediately west of Golf Plaza II Shopping Center. Pontarelli's developments in downtown Mount Prospect and Old Orchard are proceeding. The Shires at Clocktower Place will soon begin the stone and brick work on the two buildings adjacent to Pine Street. Menards/Courtesy property is being occupied by Wolffs Market Place on Saturday and Sunday for the next six months. Our last contact with Prime Group indicates some activity but nothing solid at this point for replacement user for the site. Business/Industrial Space Study Planning Intern, Diane McCarthy, reports that approximately 52% of the businesses have replied to the business space survey. When an opportunity arises to set up a meeting for business visitation appointments and other contacts with businesses, companies will be asked to complete the survey if they have not already done so. The survey has already come into use on several occasions. Contacts for office space and retail have already been made for potential leads for businesses. Step -by -Step Guide to Residential Building Permits A final draft of the Step -by -Step Guide to Residential Building Permits was prepared by Ken Fritz with the assistance of Diane McCarthy. It is proposed that the guide be available for the Business to Business Expo scheduled for November 17th. This guide represents an improvement in information for the benefit of the "Weekend Warrior ". Other information guides will be prepared as time is available for obtaining permits for business signs as well as a general guide for permits for business and industry. Economic Development Commission Minutes Page 3 NEW BUSINESS The portable display system was presented for information purposes to the Economic Development Commission. Staff will be purchasing a display system from Portable Displays Inc. which will be adaptable to both 8 and 10 foot wide booths at expos and various trade shows as well as presentations before service clubs, etc. in the community. The Economic Development Commission agreed that the system is needed and would help present the marketing and promotional activities of Mount Prospect to the general public and outside interested businesses. Business to Business Exno - November 17 1994 Ken Fritz indicated that the Business to Business Expo will take place at Bristol Court Banquet facility and will be operating on Thursday, November 17, from approximately 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a seminar on business to business connections and networking following the expo itself. Several of the members of the Economic Development Commission will be assisting Bill Cooney and Ken Fritz in manning the booth. Brian McCarthy and Dale Jessie were kind enough to donate items for the drawings for prizes for those attending the expo. Diane McCarthy, Planning Intern, will be on leave of absence from November 18 until January 1 to complete final wedding arrangements for her December wedding. We all wish Diane the very best and a speedy return. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned on a motion by John Riordan, seconded by Ben Trapani, at 9:05 a.m. The motion passed unanimously, 7 ayes, 0 nays.
