HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/01/2012 SEC MinutesMount Prospect Special Events Commission Minutes of September 1, 2012 Mount Prospect Village Hall Roll Call Sandy DiCaro, Jill Friedrichs, Janice Farley, Christina Greco, Martha Helm, Linda Hoefert, Kathy Janonis, Mike Janonis, Paul Seils, Fred Steinmiller, Teresa VanOpdorp and Tarina Wimmer Guests Mayor Irvana Wilks and Meghan Brickley Absent Eileen Gattas and Sylvia Haas Call to Order 9:02 a.m. Secretary's Report The Minutes from August 4, 2012 were e- mailed to members in advance. Motion to approve the Minutes from August 4, 2012 was made by Linda Hoefert, seconded by Christina Greco. No discussion was held, motion approved unanimously. Mike Janonis asked that the Minutes from July 7, 2012 again be deferred to the next meeting. Motion to approve the deferral of the July 7, 2012 Minutes was made by Paul Seils, seconded by Kathy Janonis. No discussion was held, motion to defer was approved unanimously. Citizens to Be Heard Mayor restated her position not to run for office. Madam Mayor also announced her proposal of new co- chairs for the Special Events Commission, they are Teresa VanOpdorp and Fred Steinmiller who will be confirmed at the September 18, 2012 Village Board Meeting. A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Martha Helm who has resigned this commission as of the end of this meeting. Financial Report The Treasurer's Report was distributed by Mike Janonis. There was no discussion and the Treasurer's Report was accepted as presented. Do- It- Yourself Sousa Martha Helm submitted a written report of the Sousa event. Motion to continue commission conversation about the feasibility of the Mount Prospect Park District taking the helm of the Do- It- Yourself Sousa event was made by Tarina Wimmer, seconded by Linda Hoefert. Discussion was held, motion to continue conversation was approved unanimously. Susan G. Koman 3 Day Walk Tarina Wimmer recapped the event and shared thank you's to everyone that participated and volunteered including organizations that partnered. Of the $1,000. approved in August to be spent of the event, expenses were $692.49 and there are bracelets remaining to be given out next year. Family Bike Ride Teresa VanOpdorp and Christina Greco stated there were approximately 200 riders. A pleasant surprise was the riding of 4 uniformed bike (police) officers, that and several officers crossing participants at Melas Park and Central Road. This year we were short on volunteers to man corners. The upside of the day was a beautiful day not like the rain storm there was last year. Celestial Celebration The theme was chosen: Celebrating 20 Years of Shining Stars. Fred Steinmiller will be soliciting donations for the celebration along with other events the SEC hosts. Howard Kleinstein has agreed to put together a montage of past banquets. New Business New Event: Christmas Tree Lighting is set for November 21, 2012 and Fred Steinmiller has agreed that the SEC will host a Chriskindlemart type of event to run in conjunction with the lighting. The cost per space will be $35. and run from 4 to 7 p.m. Other Business None Adjourn 10:10 a.m. Motion to adjourn made by Linda Hoefert, seconded by Christina Greco. Motion approved unanimously.
