VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT
COFFEE WITH COUNCIL
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2012

Meeting convened at 9:00 AM. Those present: Mayor Wilks, Trustee Paul Hoefert, Trustee
Arlene Juracek, Trustee John Matuszak, Trustee Steve Polit, Assistant Village Manager Dave
Strahl and Fire Chief John Malcolm.

Jim Chylik was pleased with the free shredding offered at Public Works and wanted to say
thank you. Mr. Chylik was concerned with the August 17 Journal article that referenced
recommendations made by the Finance Commission to the Village Board regarding property tax
projected increases. Elected officials reminded him these were recommendations only, but no
decisions have been made at this time.
Louis Goodman thanked the Mayor for her many years of service with the Village. Mr.
Goodman asked why the water billing will be once a month and Mr. Strahl advised him the
reason for billing once a month was "cash flow." Mr. Goodman expressed concern with the
proposed increase with the vehicle sticker, but was told no decision has been made on this
proposal. Mr. Goodman expressed concern with the number of times he sees "yellow trucks"
going up and down his street (3 -4 times a week), but nobody ever gets out of the tricks. Mayor
Wilks suggested that Mr. Goodman do a ride along with Public Works.
Barb VanArsdale provided pens and magnets for Crime Stoppers and also reminded everyone
about the upcoming French Market.

Carol Tortorello nothing to report.
Walter Szymczak had nothing to report.
Roy Froelich commented on what great job Public Works did repairing his street. Mr. Froelich
asked about the timing of the gates at the railroad crossing at Central Road. Staff advised him
that the ICC controls the timing at these crossings. Mr. Froelich asked about a grocery store
downtown and staff informed him there isn't sufficient space for a grocery store downtown
based on typical size needed to be profitable.
Dee Randmark nothing to report.
John Dunn had concerns with the timing of various intersections throughout the Village. Staff
advised him that these intersections are being looked at by Village Engineers and IDOT.
Helen Elk discussed SMART meters and expressed health concerns with the new SMART
meters. Also, she expressed privacy concerns with the new meters and staff advised her to go to
the Attorney General's website for more information on privacy laws.
Blanche Smith wanted to introduce herself to the Board since she is new to the Village. She
stated that Environmental Health is working on issues in her building. Ms. Smith indicated she
was interested in being on a Board or Commission and staff directed her to the website for
information.
Louis Bowers has a skunk problem and was asking where he could purchase red fox urine. Mr.
Bowers was directed to Animal Needs and Feeds in Arlington Heights.
Tom Rogers had a question regarding the process of obtaining a vehicle sticker for his new car
and tried to get in to Finance before 5 PM, but was unable to do so. Staff directed him to use the
after -hours deposit box if he couldn't make it before 5 PM. Also, there was a question as to what
time the Village Hall doors lock in the evening and staff was directed to double check the time
on the door locks.
David Schein commented that things are good in Mount Prospect compared to some other areas
he recently visited for work.
George Clowes thanked the Board for passing resolution on texting and asked if a link could be
posted on the website to access various resolutions passed by the Board. Mr. Clowes asked how
come we fell behind on street repairs over the last few years and staff advised him it was because
of the decrease in sales tax and motor fuel tax over the last few years.
Jim Stepek has been having issues with Comcast reception at his home and was asking for
assistance with getting this resolved. Staff will make contact with Comcast to see if someone
can follow up on this issue.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:58 AM.
