ROLL CALL Secretary Pro Tern Scott Filipck called the roll. April 04, 2012 Page 1 of 4 MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Nora Gawlik, seconded by Commissioner Rabia Mernon, moved to approve the amended Minutes of the March 07, 2012 Youth Commission meeting. The motion carried by unanimous approval. VISITORS TO BE HEARD Jeffrey Neidl, prospective new member from Prospect High School and Noah Kiel, brother of Chairman Adam Kiel, prospective new member from Holmes Junior High School and Maya Herr prospective new member from River Trails Middle School were in attendance. TREASURER'S REPORT Treasurer Jaclyn Stassen advised Youth Commission balance is 51,414.83. ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE Chairman — Alex Oplawski, Adult Advisor — David Schein Adam Kiel, Alex Oplawski Youth Commission Ordinance Proposed Changes The Administration Committee revised the following proposals for changes to the Youth Commission Ordinance: 1. 5.1403: Membership "D" - Change the minimum age of members to 12 or sixth grade. 2. Add a mission statement such as, "The purpose of the Mount Prospect Youth Commission is to promote youth as responsible citizens in our community." 3. 5.1405: Duties "D" - Change from "Organize and coordinate existing youth programs such as Youth in Government Day" to "Help promote and participate in existing Village-sponsored youth and family programs such as Youth in Government Day, welcome of new residents, and the Village Downtown Block Party." 4. 5.1405: Duties "E" - Change from "Develop and implement new programs for youth in the Village" to "As appropriate, assist youth service organizations in the development and implementation of new programs for youth in the Village." 5. 5.1405: Duties - Change the order of the duties to make them flow more logically. The following sequence was proposed: C, D, F, B, A, E, H, and G. 6. 5.1405: Duties: - Combine Duties "D" (organize youth programs), "E" (develop youth programs), and "F" (foster cooperation among youth service organizations), since they cover similar areas of responsibility. 7. 5.1405: Duties - Eliminate Duty "H" (budget preparation) and include it with the section on meeting with the Village Board. 8. 5-1406: Meetings - Specify meeting semi- annually with the Village Board rather than meeting in specific months. Commissioner Alex Oplawski, seconded by Commissioner Nora Gawlik motioned to approve the above proposed changes to the Youth Commission Ordinance. The motion carried by unanimous approval. Z- Chairman Adam Kiel to submit the approved proposed Youth Commission Ordinance changes to Village Clerk Lisa Angell for review by the Village Board. Z- Z- April 04, 2012 Page 2 of 4 1�1 MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES ISSUES COMMITTEE Co- Chairman — Michael Boivin and Rabia Mcmon, Adult Advisor — George Clowcs Michael Boivin, Rabia Mcmon Youth Commission On -Line Survey Advisor George Clowcs reported surveys are being edited and analyzed. New survey to be created by committee members and upon completion, submit to the commission for approval. Chairman Adam Kiel started researching area youth commissions and will contact members with dates and times of meetings. PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE Chairman — Delanie Stcinwcg, Adult Advisor — Investigator Scott Filipek Jaclyn Stasscn, Delanie Stcinwcg Youth Commission Flyer Commissioner Jaclyn Stasscn advised Youth Commission flyer is in the process of being printed. Display Board Placement Display board is currently inactive. Commissioners Jaclyn Stasscn and Delanie Stcinwcg to continue contacting area facilities for placement of display board. Commissioner Rabia Mcmon to talk to brother's middle school principal regarding possibility of placing Youth Commission display board in school. Updating of Youth Commission Village Website Commissioners Delanie Stasscn and Jaclyn Stasscn stated they are still working on the updating of the Youth Commission Village websitc. YOUTH RESOURCES COMMITTEE Chairman — Rachel Otte, Adult Advisor — Steven Polit Nora Gawlik, Rachel Otte Youth Resource Catalog Revised Youth Resource catalog is in the process of being printed. Spanish Version Youth Resource Catalog Commissioner Nora Gawlik advised her coach will assist with the Spanish translation of the Youth Resource catalog. OLD BUSINESS Meetings of Village Boards and Commissions No additional Village Board or Commission meetings were attended by commissioners. Commission members encouraged to attend upcoming Village Board meetings.
