IV. EMERALD ASH BORER (EAB) UPDATE
Continuing a practice begun in 2006, the Mount Prospect Village Board will once again
review the status of the Village's ongoing battle against Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).
About 3500 ash trees still remain in Village parkways, and there are likely at least that many
on private property. With EAB finds now increasing exponentially each year, this exotic pest
is now beginning to have a very serious impact on the Village's urban forest as well as its
budget. At the March 13 meeting, arborists from the Public Works Forestry /Grounds
Division are expected to update the Board on the division's EAB management activities
during the past year. Additionally, Scott Schirmer, Plant and Pesticide Specialist Supervisor
and EAB Program Manager for the Illinois Department of Agriculture, will give his
perspective about municipal EAB management in Illinois and in Mount Prospect.
Appropriate staff will be on hand to answer questions and facilitate discussion.
